My mind kept recalling the incident that occurred today. I was still in the oblivious. I kept walking until the tall enormity building was out of my sight.
Sighing a breath of relief , my hands twitched against the freezing cold weather. The feeling of nauseous crept through me. My head was in a state that couldn't be functioned. The freezing cold weather that whispered against my body didn't help my condition either.
It had been four years since I last saw him. The feeling of adrenaline passed through me. His face clouded my thoughts and I couldn't forget the smirk he had plastered on his face. I wished that he would disappear out of my life to be never seen again. I hated everything about him. I spent my last four years trying to build my new life without being dependent on anyone. His family tried to contact me after our divorce but I ignored all their calls and messages. I didn't want to be involved with him. He seemed to be doing just fine without me.
Tears started to swell against my eyes as I looked back on the day he announced that he wanted a divorce.
Flashback
I rushed downstairs as I heard the front door click.
"Matuex" I called out as I tried to find the twitch to turn on the lights. As the view of the room brightened, my eyes clustered on Matuex's face. He looked different. His face was stern and hard. His eyes seemed to be in a shade of darkness that I couldn't tell. His clothes looked dirty. He glanced at me with the emotionless face and brushed against my shoulders as he walked towards the kitchen door.
This wasn't the same person as yesterday. He was sweet and kind. This was someone totally different. My thoughts were all over the place and I tried to gather them up. It seemed as if someone replaced him with someone him else. The way he greeted me at the door would usually be filled with hugs and kisses. But today there was nothing.
"I want a divorce" he blurted out as he gazed towards my direction.
My eyes grew wider and his words echoed in my head. My hands started to tremble as this feeling of panic rushed through my body. "What" my voice was barely a whisper. He wanted a divorce after five years of living together and loving each other.
He grabbed his suitcase and lifted it up by placing it on the table. He opened the bag and took some papers out. "Sign it" he said looking while handing the papers to me.
My head was starting to throb and my breath hitched. My trembling hands grasped the papers and glanced down at it. He had already signed
it. My eyes shot up towards him. He looked at me with the same cold expression."Why" was the only thing I could ask at this moment.
"I fell out of love" his tone wasn't the same. It was colder and grimmer. I felt like I was about to faint. How did he change so quickly. Yesterday, he told me that he loved me and today he fell out of love? Is this the same person.
I wanted to scream and shout but I realised that I could not win in this situation. I had to give in easily. I had no money of my own either as I was home all the time, cooking and doing gardening, trying to spend my time quicker as I grew lonelier.
Matuex handed me a pen and with my hands trembling, I signed the papers. Tears threatened to fall off but I managed to hold them in. I walked upstairs and started to pack everything I bought and owned. I had nowhere to go and I didn't want to be a burden to Matuex either. My eyes drifted towards a envelop that I received couple of days ago. It had cash in it but I didn't know who sent this to me.
Why would someone send me this much cash? I thought as placed the envelop in my bag. I grabbed hold of the suitcase and walked slowly downstairs.
I found Matuex staring at the papers with an expression I couldn't tell. His hands were clutching against his sides and his breath hitched up and down.
I placed my keys on the table and darted my eyes to him.
"Bye" I whispered to him as I opened the door to never step in again.
