Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and Norman never came looking for her. With tears in her eyes, she slowly made her way home only to find the place had been cleaned out. A note was left for her on the back of the door.
I apologize dear Zenobia for my abandonment, but I can not bare to see you with my Sven gone.
I can not seem to forgive you though you are not to blame.
Your books will be well cared for in my hands. This is a promise I will keep.
My sweet little Zenobia, I will find you in time to return them.
For now I must say goodbye. Stay well my sweet child.
Uncle Norman.
After reading the note, she fell to her knees and sobbed for hours not moving an inch. He had left her and blamed her for something she could not control. She did not understand why he would leave her. They could have worked through the loss together. Time passed and the sun rose. Zenobia though tired became irate. She let out a high pitch scream and started throwing anything she could find. A chair found itself crashing through a window causing the sunlight to stream in and grab Zenobia by surprise. The sun was up and there was nothing covering the windows now. She screamed as the rays caressed her skin briefly leaving blisters.
hiding out in the lower room of her old home Zenobia cried herself to sleep in a ball on the dirt floor. The last place in the house her and Sven had been alone.
"Zenobia, you are strong. You can survive anything if you put your mind to it." Svens voice sounded in her head.
"But Uncle Sven I am a child, that is all I will ever be is a child." She pouted holding the dirk in her small hands."No one will ever give me the chance to prove I can." She retorted.
"Zenobia, you will always prove you can survive child you simply have to continue on your path even when all else fails. You just keep living in the memory of those closest to you that you have lost. do you understand? Anyone at any age can do that."
Snapping awake she looked around and nearly started crying again. She felt so alone and hurt, she wanted Sven back. Wanted her family back. She could have stayed with them forever. They knew her for what she was! Whatever that may have been. She let out another scream this time out of frustration. She didn't understand why no one ever wanted her. When they did want her she could not stay. Why had her life become so hard to bare?
Leaving the house, she had once called home Zenobia felt cold and distanced from everything. She failed to realize she was being followed. Once clear of the buildings the couple speeds up blurring until they stood in front of Zenobia.
"Look the LITTLE girl is sad." A man spoke with a peculiar accent.
"Aww...Does the Little baby want her Normmy?" A woman cackled causing Zenobia to snap her attention to them.
"You leave him alone." She snarled.
"What? She can talk? What are you going to do Child, sick the Russian on us?" The woman taunted "Oh that is right. He died. Boo, Hoo." She rubbed her eyes and laughed. Zenobia had lost her temper and jumped on the woman aiming to rip out her jugular.
"Leave them alone!" She screamed and clawed the woman's face as the man pulled her off the woman. He grabbed a wooden stake and aimed it at her chest only to lose his grip as she ripped free of him. Sure she was small but she was also younger than him and her size was a bigger advantage than his weight.
"Stupid child!" He snarled and threw the stake at her catching her leg slightly ripping through the skin. She fell to the ground and pushed herself up after the immediate shock before she continued to run away.
