Malcolm just woke up to his aunt blasting some sort of retro music on the radio. It wasn't really nuisance because he likes to live a simple life. Something like music just seems unimportant. Even if he did hate it, he still lived with his aunt. Her place, her rules.
"Aunt Sofie! G'morning" He lazily said while making his way to the kitchen to help out. "Oh hey there boo, better hurry up. Registration starts by 8" The enthusiastic woman told him. "Oi I've been telling to stop calling me boo" He whined but Sofie just started laughing at his remark. "Oh but why not? You're like a son to me" She couldn't stop giggling seeing Malcolm staring her down playfully. The two B grinned at each other while preparing for their day
The lad has been living with sofie for 12 years now. Ever since his parents disappeared. At first he just couldn't accept it. But as time goes on, he learned the harsh reality of life. He would work in cafès or shops, just to help his aunt financially. They live in a cheap apartment. A simple but happy life.
Sadly, unfortunate events come by at the worst times. Malcolm needed to find a new school with a lower tuition. Thus, leading to this day. As they found just the right place. Kolari High school
"Hurry up! You're as slow as the wifi" Sofie yelled from the car. Indicating that they were getting late. "But we don't even have wifi" He said while trying to shake out the right keys for the lock. "Exactly! HAHA" Sofie retorted and busted out laughing in the car. The boy caught up and got straight in the car. "I hate you" he said, trying to sound as annoyed as possible. The aunt just rolled her eyes and started driving. "Oh sure you do."
Humming to the radio, Malcolm sighed in boredom. "What's wrong boo?" she started to get worried about him. "Do I really have to go to this school? I mean- I could just work at the cafè then help you out and maybe go-" He was interrupted by his aunt shushing him with her finger in front of his face. "Malcolm, listen. This is gonna be good for you. Once you graduate you'll be able to get a better job. And besiiides the tuition is unbelievably low." She insists even though she doesn't the thought of spending less time with Malcolm. The boy just pouts there in his seat as they slowly reach their destination. "Come on, boo. We're here"
When he got out of the car he was surprised to see a standard amount of teens that came to enroll. The aunt was also quite shocked. They just brushed it off though. Personally, Sofie expected swarms of teens competing to get in the building, considering how cheap the school was.
Malcolm was dumbfounded at the sight of the school. It was so clean and new. Everything just seemed so perfect. Something was bothering him, he just couldn't figure out what was wrong. "Hellooo??" he was confronted with a confused aunt. "You look like you just saw a ghost. Let's go now, Yea?" She took his arm to lead him inside. Malcolm just hummed while his mind was still stuck in an endless curiosity of the place. "It looks creepy as much as it's perfect" he said referring to the school. "What did you say boo?" Sofie heard her boy mumble something. "Ahh, nothin"
They came across a table with the word 'Registration' emphasized in front of the employees. "Are you here to enroll?" One of the ladies asked. But Malcolm just kept staring at how they were wearing matching uniforms that all looked expensive. The overall atmosphere was making him uneasy. He glanced at the hallways. Plain white with symmetrical doorways and lights flickering occasionally.
Snapping fingers in front of the boy's face caught his attention. "Hey, you stargazing? Haha. It's your turn to fill up the forms" Malcolm complied obediently. Him spacing out is starting to make Sofie really worried. She just let it pass while leading Malcolm to the table where the person in charge was patiently waiting, with some papers and a pen prepared for the boy. "Im gonna wait at the benches, K?" Malcolm just nodded in response and was handed with a pen. But he couldn't stop feeling tense. It's like he was falling into a trap. At least that's what he convinced himself. He was holding the pen in his hand. The boy didn't notice himself trembling until he was startled by a hand on his shoulder. "Malcolm are you ok? It's fine if you're nervous. You just gotta write your answers on the paper. Nothing to be worried about" She softly smiled at the boy. Trying her best to reassure him. At this point she was totally convinced that the boy was upset or something. She lightly squeezed his shoulder and went back to the waiting area.
Every second felt like a minute to him. The whole place was just so perfect, too perfect to be more precise. The constant feeling of uneasiness was ticking in his head. Driving him crazy by every second that passes by. Eventually he finished filling up some info, like contacts and his address before hurrying to find comfort from the only person hi can trust. "Hey kid!" he heard a female voice call him from behind his back. His whole body was uncomfortable, he wanted to get out as soon as possible. "Come back in 2 weeks to see if you got in" He faced the lady in confusion. "But there wasnt even a test" Thinking he wouldn't get more confused, this just added to his list of weird shit. "Oh we're taking in students based on their financial status and retrospect to their academic achievements" Malcolm just nodded before going back to his way to safety.
He was met by Sofie in the hallway then instantly caught her in a tight hug. "Let's go home" He mumbled in the Adult's shoulder. Sofie was clueless why he was acting this way, she didn't question him about it anyway.
Malcolm was already a grown-up. It was surprising to see him this way, even for himself!
They made their way to the car in an awkward silence. "Hey wanna eat lunch at a restaurant?" Sofie tried lightening up the mood. Though she didn't get any response from Malcolm. She sighed before telling Malcolm that they would eat at home instead
They reached their apartment while keeping the silence consistent throughout the whole trip back. It was making Sofie anxious. She wanted to talk to him about it, but she didn't want to pry. The got in the apartment but rushed into his room. Making his aunt let out a big sigh. She wouldn't let this get the best of her. Confidently, she got to the kitchen to prepare something that could cheer up the poor boy.

Lost. That's how the boy felt. He didnt even know why. He just kept contemplating on what happened today, as well as what was so.. different about the school. It felt so real but also if he stared at the walls he would feel like it was fake. There was something on his mind. Something he couldn't point out. The way everything looked normal. It made him uneasy. As if everything was from another world
He heard a loud knock on his door as well as a concerned call from his aunt.
"Malcolm! For God's sake. Open the door." The boy greeted Sofie as soon as he opened the door. "What's wrong with you?! I've been knocking for 5 minutes!" She let out her frustration and forget why she was even there. "Let's eat, I made Fried chicken"Sounds of utensils and a radio adjusted to a lower volume was all that could be heard in the table. By no means was it ever even the two of them. "Boo""Aunt" They coincidentally said in an attempt to break the silence. Malcolm sighed as he began to apologize for being weird and spacing out for 75% of their day. "It's not a problem, Boo. I was just worried" She sent a warm smile and continued to eat. "Uh so how was today?" she asked. "Actually it was quite peculiar. Earlier I noticed that th--" Malcolm suddenly dropped his spoon and began shaking. He could only hear a high pitched ringing sound. It began to hurt his ears as he stood up from the table and launched himself away. He was covering his ears and looking around the room. His vision was getting blurry. He got a glimpse of Sofie jumping out of her seat from the complete shock of what was happening. She was calling out to him, asking what was happening. Malcolm reached out to her, seeking help. That's he noticed his arm. From his right hand, there was a dim light that seemed to be crawling up his arm. He was panicking at the sight. The last thing he saw was Sofie, cupping his cheeks. Her eyes filled with tears. Afraid that she would lose all that's left of her family. Until Malcolm fell down, the ringing sound continues and the pain was making head pump. Even though he was far from being conscious, the excruciating event still went on for what felt like an eternity.
Then it stopped. It was dark. It was cold. He felt lonely. Then he was told. A voice ever so sweet. He told him of a destiny, soon he must uphold.
