The news spreads fast like pulsating cells send nerves to the brain. Milla's body was interred at the private burial place. Ray was locked in her room unallowable to attend the funeral. She wandered towards the window, and peered gloomily at the veil of mist that shrouded the glass.
Then, the door of her room swung to an abrupt. She turned towards the silhouette coming from it. Adia charged in, briskly.
"Ray," she panted breathlessly. "Pack your stuff. Lady Martha Grey was about to take you to St. Peters juvenile school."
"Juvenile school?" Ray objected. "It was an accident. She can't prosecute me?"
"You know Lady Grey. She can even send the president to prison for hypothetically killed her dog," Adia said, as she busied herself dumping Ray's clothes into the suitcase. "I have something for you."
She rose to stand only inches from Ray and took out something out of a small velvet sack from her tunic. "She left this for you as your birthday gift. Saving it for 5 years and thought she could give this to you herself last night. And she even bought you a 3 a.m. train ticket to New York. Your mother lives there, she says."
"Wait, who told you this? How did she know all this?" Ray demanded."Milla, who else? Lady Grey squealed about it."
Ray stood frozen. Her hands were numb, holding a $10,000 cash tied in a band; Milla's annual savings.
