YOU SHOWED YOUR TONGUE AND IT WAS FORKED IN TWO

I used to think of home when I was away. I didn't think anything would change, almost like the home that stood still with time but seeing the house now I was wrong. The outside had fooled me in thinking everything was going to be the same. Gone was the sideboards and photos, the whole hall area had little to nothing in the room. The only thing that was there was a photo of my father alongside a woman.
"Things have changed around here," Thomas patted me on the back as he stood next to me. He noticed my eyes on the photo before he let out a chuckle, "That's Joelle."
Now I could put a face to the name, this was the woman that my father was going to be marrying. I guess he had not been too occupied with looking for me after all. "Joelle?" I acted like I was dumb, acted like I did not know too much. Sure I had told my brother that I knew Niall needed me but that meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.
"Oh yes," he laughed as he walked around where I stood. Behind me, I heard the front door close as my brother spoke again. "Joelle and dad are getting married," he informed me on the situation. "He's going to be so thrilled your back."
"Speaking of which," Harry's voice was calm as he walked into my vision and stood by the stairs. "Where exactly have you been?"
I hated that voice. I loved that voice.
All I wanted was to tell him everything, I wanted to believe he still had some good in him but looking him dead in the eyes there was no doubt about it that he was in charge here now.
I let my hands dangle by my side, I wanted him to believe that all of this was just a mixup. "I've been in rehab," I smiled as I motioned to my legs with my forefingers. "Da da, I can walk again."
Apparently this did not impress him as he shook his head, I watched as he crossed his arms over his broad chest. I noticed the way his suit tightened and my stomach did flops as my eyes scanned over his flexed biceps. His eyes raked up and down my body, I breathed in heavily as I felt him linger on my legs almost as if he was looking for a trick. When his green eyes met mine again, he spoke, "I can see that."
"I'm sure Elliott will tell all when she's ready," Thomas piped up as he came and stood beside me.
Harry glanced at my brother, "I have some business to attend to. Do not let her out of your sight." I watched with a smirk as he walked away pulling his mobile phone from his pocket as he went.
My eyes lingered on him, all I could do was watch him go. I didn't look away the whole time I could still see him. I hated that now, even now he still had this ridiculous hold over me. I hated that looking at him made me feel... weak.
I looked at Thomas, "Someone is calling daddy." I made a childish remark as I smiled, my pink lips half curling into a smirk until I looked at my brother.
God, he had changed. Now he was a man. Gone were his boyish looks and now he looked like a proper gentleman, even if he was wearing a black hoody and black jeans. Since the last time I had seen him he had gained more muscles, I guessed he had been training hard, probably hoping for the take over which he had been denied.
Thomas' face was serious now, "Don't Ell. You've been squirrelled safely away, why come back now?" He pulled my arm as he took me into the sitting room closing the door behind us as I casually sat down on the sofa. "Well?" He had his right hand on his hip as he stood leaning on the door looking at me.
"I'm here for Niall," I answered honestly. "I asked him to keep my secret and now he's paying for it."
My brother closed his eyes, I watched him as he shook his head a little. When he opened his eyes he looked at me, I felt like I was ten again. I had seen this look before, the same sad look he gave me the day my pet rabbit had died when I was at school.
"Thomas?" My voice was shaky as I said his name.
"You cannot see Niall," he told me in a small voice.
I walked towards him, my hand reaching for the doorknob even though he still leaned against it. I had hoped he would have moved but he stayed in place. "Come on, get out the way," I tried to push him to the side but Thomas did not budge. "Thomas," I warned him as I stared up at him with narrowed eyes.
"Just wait until dad gets home," he told me as he kept the door shut. "Please, Ell?"
Moving away from the door, I knew that this time I had to play it differently. Now I could not be the impulsive teenager I used to be, returning home and trying to help my friend meant I needed to on my best game. "Sure," I held my hands up surrendering to his terms as I walked back to the sofa. Sitting on it, I put my right leg over my left as I placed my hands in my lap. I could feel my gun resting against my stomach through my jacket as I looked at Thomas. "So, are you going to tell me more about Joelle?"
