It was on the 4th of April she woke up took the buckets and headed to the river to fetch some water she had her long skirt on and a long knitted jersey with a short sleeve vest it was still dark around 06:30 she liked to sing a song she always said it calms her whenever she feels sad or nervous about something she kept humming the song till she got to the river.
She sat there thinking about her life and the things she has been through..
Why me?
Her inner voice asking her. She kept humming and humming till she felt like nomore then she took the bucket that was full of water she fixed her doek as she lifted it, she carefully placed it on top of her head heading back to her house... as soon as she got in she found her sisters Ntando and Thobile sitting on top of the bungstool laughing.
Usuyajola wena neh? Asked thobile
Uyajola vele loh look at her breasts i wonder who has the nerve to look at that pointing at her chest..Ntando
Well goodmorning to you two is mom awake?
Pshhh just go in please rolling her eyes.
I'll take that as a yes..
Mom...shouting
I'm in the kitchen shouting back..I wonder what you doing there since you all busy nje anywho i was thinking mom...uh i want to move to Jhb i heard there are good jobs there i don't mind i can even do gardening or being a maid aslong as I'll get money and send it here so that you'll be able to buy food since Ntando and thobile don't feel like working.
No baby why would you want to go clean someone else's house while we have our own? I heard that people from Johannesburg don't respect maids or gardeners plus you as a black beautiful girl won't survive you too innocent ntombi.....
But mom no i just can't stay here and do none you know i didn't go to tertiary right? And you do know I'm clever so i just want to do something for myself for once don't get me wrong mama but this village world is not for me really I'm destined for bigger things.
Smilling......looking at her as she went on and on about Jhb and being independence then she suddenly stopped smilling as she remembered she's the only child that's willing to do something whenever she ask her to.
So you gonna leave me here all by myself?..asked mom
No mama please don't guilt talk me please you know very well you have thobile and ntando plus dad is also here just let me please but don't let anyone know about this not even your husband okay?
Nodding....mama
Please like I'm begging you I'm doing this for us..you infact mama you've been through alot now let me take care of you okay?
I trust you ....as she hugged her I love you so much baby please do take care of yourself for me when you get there and remember whatever you do you do it for yourself okay....you my special child never let anyone tell you that you a failure or you ugly because of your perfect beautiful dark skin you are rare and you are a dime now i give you my blessing mtanami.
Crying oh mama thank you so much now i feel at ease since you blessed me i pray all will go well and I'll take care of you always even if I'm not here ...as they both cried nodding.
