They passed the market and entered an alleyway that may lead them to the tower. On the ground was a scrap of paper that Layton picked up.
The boss hasn't been himself since Lady Viola's passing and he shows no signs of recovering. That's why I've decided I'll make one as a tribute to Lady Viola. I'm sure it will put a smile back on his face.
"Ah yes, now it makes sense. Could our mystery author be...him?"
I've worked my fingers to the bone trying to cheer up the boss. Looking out over St Mystere, I see a thriving, bustling village. With so many villagers to keep him company, maybe he can finally be happy again.
"Professor, what's the matter? You look deep in thought." Asked Jenny.
"I can't confirm my suspicions at the moment. But I think it's safe to say this goes deeper than we thought."
As they kept walking, they met a cul-de-sac. A wall was the only thing separating them from the tower.
"I think this is a dead end." Commented Jenny.
"And this does appear to be the only road, doesn't it..."
"Gosh, that tower does look awfully ominous, doesn't it? Seeing it up close, I can understand why the villagers are so scared of the place."
"Let's take a closer look at this wall. There might be more to it than meets the eye."
They got closer to the bricked wall, touching it, trying to find any lever, a movable brick, anything. The professor sensed a third presence. He turned back and so did Jenny. A girl, wearing large glasses and an orange and yellow vale was thrown on her head.
"And who might you be?" asked the professor.
"Well, I'd rather not say." The girl responded.
"Huh? Why not? What are you hiding?!" protested Jenny.
"We seek access to the tower." The professor had spoken with grace. "Do you think you could help us, miss?"
She was stroked by his kindness. She blushed.
"The tower? Hmm..." she heard a sound coming from behind her and darted away from them.
"Oh, wait!" screamed the professor. But in vain. She left them alone.
"What the world was that about?" Jenny said. "...Huh?" she bent and picked something up.
"Professor, what's this?"
"A Ferris wheel ticket? Very curious indeed...Jenny, that girl may have dropped this to tel us where we should head next."
"But... but why would she want to help us?"
"Your guess is as good as mine, Jenny. Still, I can't help but feel that she's trying to help us."
"Well, your intuition hasn't ever been wrong. Let's see what we can find around the park's Ferris wheel!"
________
"Nyeh heh heh! That's right Layton, go straight to the park! You've been a thorn in my side for too long. I think it's about time for you to disappear... for good.
________
The park's gates were closed.
"This park has been closed every time we've come by. Why do you suppose that is, professor?"
"Hmm. I haven't the foggiest idea. Perhaps we should ask someone at the village hall." Replied the professor.
