i was born and raised on the pouge side of the outerbanks but i haven't seen or talked to anyone since my bestfriend left i've been in the house but it don't matter bc i would always have bruises because my dad would hit me and my mom would just watch

"HAYLEE get your ass down here now"my dad said

i didn't say anything and just went down

he came near me and i smelt the alcohol on his breathe and he slapped me

"what was that for i didn't do jackshit to you so what's your problem"i say holding my face and then he punched me in my stomach then when i was holding my stomach on the floor he kicked me and that's when i ran upstairs to my room i changed into

and i left and climbed out my window and grabbed
my surf board and went to the beach i realized this group of people at the beach they started walking over to me

"are you new because i haven't seen you around"this guy said

"yeah who are you"i say not interested

"i'm topper this is rafe"he says pointing to his friend

"okay i care why"i say rolling my eyes

"well i was just telling you and i was going to ask you do you want me to show you around"he asks

"uhm no thank you i got it"i say starting to walk away but he was following me

"are you sure"he ask

"topper leave the poor girl alone she clearly doesn't want you"this blonde haired boy says and then i see a whole group so i walk over there and this girl comes up to me

"hi i'm kiara but you can call me kie and this is john b and pope"she says smiling

"hi i'm haylee do you guys wanna surf with me "i say to pope

"do you guys wanna go surfing with haylee"pope says

"yeah i'm always up to surf"john b says and i giggle

"yeah pope and i'm the one that saved you from topper the names jj"he says winking at me and i blush

"okay jj stop flirting with the haylee we just met chill"kie said and i just laughed

then in the heat of the moment i took off my shorts not remembering my bruises and i look back up at them and they all look shocked

"what's wrong with y'all"i say and look down remembering and i jus start crying and jj comes over to me and hugs me

"shh it's alright"he whispered in my ear

"i'm sorry i gotta go"i say getting out of the hug

"no your not going anywhere i'll take you to my house"john b says

"my dad h-h-he'll get mad if i'm not home by a certain time"i say scared

"it's fine your not going home so you can get beat again and your our friend now"he says

"why'd it happen"jj asks

"when he's bored he yells at me and beats me and my mom just watches and doesn't say or do anything to help me when he's drunk i'm his punching bag when he's sober he just kicks me when he's mad at what i say slaps,punches and kicks then tells me i'm a whore when i haven't did anything or just mentally abuses me"i say in tears and of course jj is the first one to hug me

"i know how you feel"he says and shows me his stomach and there were bruises everywhere

"it's fine i've been immune to it"he says

"i hope so but anyway who wants to go surfing"i say

"no i'm not it's sick what he does to you how long has it been since it's been going on"he says

"pope don't make her feel worse man she's trying here she let us in and your just making her feel bad so when it happens again she's not gonna tell us because your making it seem like it's her fault"kie says

then we all run down and surf and me and jj got some good waves

"hey can i get your number"he says shyly

"yeah of course"i say with a smile

then the others come to where me and jj were then we get out because it was night and i go over to jj and  give him my number and i asked for everyone's number

and then i get into their van and go to the 'pouge' and jj decided to spend the night and i slept in the guest bed and he fell asleep
me: why does your dad do it to you

me:i can take it but i don't know how much more i can take before he kills me

and with that i plugged my phone in and went to sleep
