Ever since i was little, i always wondered why my dad would never talk to me. he would always look at me with guilt and sorrow. my mother explained to me that it was because of a social experiment that took place some years ago. people were to be called into the city hall to receive their new rules.
that's where I am.
i was to report to the government in three weeks. i was terrified. i knew that I wouldn't be able to speak again. as I went to school, I noticed one of the girls in my class went missing last night. Her name was Rory Wolfmoon. super edgy name, I know. she was supposed to be silent starting today, but rumors say that she fought with the police and ran away to avoid it. i wish I was as brave as her, but I couldn't bear to leave my family and friends behind. i even already started taking sign language classes.
i decided that I would take time to spend and talk with my friends. i would miss talking to them, after receiving my new rules. more rumors had spread, saying that there was a group of rebels that would try and rise against the government, to take back our right of speech. as I walked in to language arts, I saw one of my best friends, Alex Cornelison. he had black spikey hair and green eyes that if you stared at them long enough, they would pierce your soul.
as school let out, I walked by my best friends, Eli Rider, Alex Cornelison, and Rodney Burks. i could see the police patrolling the streets, looking for any sign of Rory. it was scary seeing them look for her. they didn't even seem concerned with her wellbeing. thwy had looks of disgust on their faces. i gulped hard before continuing to walk home, saying goodbye to my friends in the process.
