Work...........I hate it. I just absolutly hate my job! I work as a store clerk and let me tell you, you get some pretty interesting customers. Like today!! A woman had come in and asked if I could assist her in trying on a bra. I know what you're thinking, Ew right? I assure you it wasn't in a sexual way, she simply wanted my opinion on how it looked for her girlfriend. But I politely declined her and ended up sending Erica, my best friend who is female, to help her. Surprisingly Erica was glad to help her. Thank god. It's not that I was interested in the woman, no way. I'm gay and proud!! Not many people know that though. Just Erica and myself. My parents died when I was younger so I don't really remember much about them.
It's about closing time. I finished up helping the last customer handing over his bags.
"Thank you, have a nice evening!" I called out. He replied with a 'You to'. Finally I can just go home and sleep.
"By Stiles!! I see you tomarrow!" Erica said walking out the door. She always leaves me to lock up. She said she doesn't like being the last one here because it leaves her more prone to being mugged or something. I mean yeah, it could happen but it's like 40% chance it would happen to you.
Grabbing my backpack out of my own special locker decorated in superheros and villains, I gazed at my favorite out of them all. Batman. I always see and here about him on the news, but I have never seen him in person. It's one of my life goals, to meet Batman that is. How amazing would that be. I closed my locker and locked it, spinning the dial so no one would be able to get into it.
I put on my hoodie and slung my backpack over one shoulder. I made my way out of the office, through the store and out the door. I locked up the store doors and sighed. Now for the night walk home. The walk home always creeped me out but, I'm still here aren't I? I stuffed my hands in my pocket and started the long walk home. It was unusually quite for a Friday night. Normally there is plenty of people out drinking off a long days work or just out to relax. But not tonight. It was dead silent. I shook it off and kept walking.
I was close to home when I felt as though someone was watching me. I had stopped a couple of times and looked around only to see no one. I was more paranoid than usual. As I turned a corner, I came to a sudden stop. In front of me were three hooded figures standing in the middle of the sidewalk blocking my path. I decided I wasn't going to press my luck and try to go around them, so I turned around and headed back the way I came. Good thing there's more than one way to get back to my apartment. I only took a few steps before I realized that there were two more hooded figures in front of me. As I went to turn around yet a second time the three that were behind me started walking at a quick pace towards me while the ones in front of me did the same. I didnt know what to do so I did what I thought was most logical. Run.
Running is not one if my greatest skills but I can be quick when I want to be. I was running in the opposite direction of the apartments which I was definitely going to regret later but right now, i'm only focussed on not dying. I looked behind and saw that they had stopped following me. I grinned and slowed to a walk and then a complete stop. Who knew a scrawny little boy like me could outrun a gang. I leaned up against a building realizing how tired I actually was. I sighed in relief. Who knows what would have happ-
A blinding, almost quite literal, pain shot through my skull as my head connected with the brick building. My vision blurred as I staggered to stay upright and face my attackers. I was seeing doubles and swung at whatever seemed nearest to me. I guess I wasn't close enough because my fists never connected with anything and I could hear their cackling, like wild hyenas going in for the kill. My vision finally went clear, well, as clear as I could get it, and I could see the punks that jumped me. With adrenaline coursing through my veins, the only thing I could think of was get the hell out of there. So that's what I did. Or at least I tried.......they had me surrounded in a semicircle against the building so the only way out was through them. I saw an opening, so I took it. I charged full speed toward two of the smallest out of the bunch ready to zip right through them and be on my merry way. Only that's not what happened. The one looked shocked and pulled an object from the back of his pants. It took me a bit before I could see what that object was but it was to late for me to stop. There was three loud bangs and it seemed like the whole world slowed down. I could see and feel everything around me, but it was as if my hearing had failed. I remember feeling the most excruciating pain and clutching my stomach. Then I could see them laughing and I felt kicks and punches to my face and body. I could feel myself slowly letting go and blacking out when I saw a large figure drop from the sky. Then everything went black.......
