-Anger
I could barely see above the marble countertop, but I really wanted to help mommy with the cookies. Mommy makes the best chocolate chips cookies I ever ate. She makes them even better than the store!
Mommy is putting on a hair net to cover all her hair. Everybody knows that hairy cookies are yucky.
Mommy has black hair today. She did it at the salon. I like mommy's hair. It smells extra nice, like clothes from the dryer. It doesn't grow like that. Mommy did her her nails and they're really pretty and long with flowers. Mommy looks so different, but pretty like always.
Mommy gave me a hair net too. I dont like it, but I know its better than having hairy cookies. Mommy lifts me up and I hope I'm not too heavy because mommy is always tired. I get to stir the mix and eat some chocolate chips. Mommy kisses my nose and I laugh a lot. She tickles me and we almost spill the bowl of mix. Mommy catches it and everything is okay.
We choose to watch a cartoon when the cookies are in the oven. Mommy lets me lie on her lap and she makes little twists in my hair. I tell her not to, I'm not a girl, but she does it anyway. She likes to do it, and I love her so its okay.
The cartoon stops and the ads are on, so I look up at mommy. She gives me a big smile.
"Guess what Lo?"
I can't guess what she will say, so I ask her. "What mommy?"
"I'm going to have a little baby. And you will have him as your brother or sister!"
I jump up and away from her tummy, because I know thats where mommy will keep the baby.
"Is it already in there?" I look at her tummy, and it looks normal.
"Yes bug." Mommy always called me bug. I loved bugs, so it was nice.
Mommy put her hand on her tummy. Maybe she was feeling to see if the baby was okay. She made a face when she rubbed it and I could see the little blue and purple spot where her shirt was up.
I knew where mommy got those spots from.
"But why did daddy hit you there? Doesnt he like the baby?"
"Your daddy doesnt know about the baby yet sweetie. And I told you it was an accident."
Mommy and I talked about this before. "Mommy, I know its not an accident. Daddy always hits you when he is angry. Miss Laurie taught us that when something is an accident and we're really sorry, we try not to ever ever do it again. And daddy always does it. I know things mommy."
I do know things. Im always first in class. And I told mommy to tell daddy to stop, but she doesn't listen. Mommy says I cant tell daddy either.
Mommy sighs and her eyes look like she is going to cry. I hug mommy.
" Your Dad will not do it anymore. He told me so. He promised." Mommy reaches out to me and pulled me into her lap. "Daddy is going to come back from his trip any day now, and he will be all better."
I look at mommy's face. Her eyebrows were pulled together really tightly. She looks like she is very sure, so I try to believe her.
"Okay mommy." I nod.
Mommy tickles me some more, while saying, "Daddy will love the baby Lo, we'll build a nursery in one of the extra rooms, and I'll let you help take care of your brother or sister. We'll have a happy family, me and you and daddy and my new little baby."
Mommy screamed when the glass bottle smashes against the wall. I know it is Daddy. He always throws stuff.
"Baby?" He shouts.
