You know the frustrating part in every, single, dumb, horror movie where you, as a bystander watching, is screaming at the teenage girl to not open the basement door? Well my story is very similar.
It all started the summer going into junior year, the year everyone claims is the most important year of your high school career. Well, correction, I met him sophomore year but the real story started in the summer.
The hot, humid Georgia air is beating down on me as I lace up my brand new pink tennis shoes for my first season of cross-country. As I am bent down single, double, triple knotting my laces I scan around me to view my future teammates. I look to the left and see my stunning best friend, Katie in whom I forced to join the team, and then I look to the right and see the devil. Okay, so maybe not the actual devil but I see my ex best friend, Maggie. Maggie is one of those girls, who everyone thinks is nice, but then gets to know her and realizes she crazy and gets out A.S.A.P.. I actually feel bad for her due to the fact that everyone pretends to be her friend because they don’t want to be bullied. Myself included.
As I stand up I tower over Katie (who's 5'2 where I am 5'9) and our other friend Meg. I have no idea why humans can tell when people are watching them, but at that moment I felt that strange feeling someone was looking at me. I look around to find the source, and make eye contact with a tall brown haired boy. When our eyes meet, he has the nerve to wink at me! You would think he would be embarrassed for out right staring at someone, but nope he seemed pretty confident to me.
"So who's that?" I tried to be sneaky about asking about the cute boy to Meg who knows everyone on the team.
"Oh him, yah that’s Johnny. I would just ignore him if I were you." But for some odd reason that sentence made me not want to ignore him at all, in fact it had me wanting to do the exact opposite.
