THE CALL TO ROYALTY

Chapter six

Huh so many felicitations. How I wish I was being congratulated for a better thing. I was sitting in the class with my head on the table and just when I decided to raise my head, I saw a junior student standing right in front of me. Gosh she startled me.

"What is it? Why are you standing here like a body guard aren't you supposed to be in your class?" I fired at the girl who looked a bit scared.

"Sorry Senior Nadia, Mr Nasir sent me to you he said he wants to see you in his office now" the girl said.

Oh my God this is the fourth time someone is sending for me in thirty minutes. Oh my Allah! What did I really do wrong? So I can't even rest again. I quickly got up and headed straight to the Vp's office.

"Good morning sir" I greeted as I reached his office.

"Morning first in command" he answered with a broad smile. "Sit right here" he gestured to me sit on the visitors chair in the office.

So what now? So this is how the head girl lives her life, No one even cares what she has got to lose. Like seriously this is the same man who tells us to remain in our classes until it's break time but here he is, he doesn't even care if I'm missing a lesson or not.

"Nadia" Mr Nasir's voice pulled me out of my trance. "I called you here because I feel there are some few things you'll have to know as the head girl" he paused .

Mm mm. He cleared his throat and continued. As the head girl of Fggc Kazaure, I must tell you that your freedom has been taken away from you. You have to be eye conscious from now on and you must serve as a good example to the entire school. You are now a role model and the whole school look up to you. And remember that you are to serve and not to be served. You are the holder of the red beret and the red beret comprises of all other 23 caps. So we are expecting very much from you. And as you know... A call came in and interrupted him.

He excused himself to answer the call and he was back in just a blink of an eye and he looked as if he was going out.

"Ehrrm Head girl, I have a meeting with the principal now. So you can go to your class.I'll send for you later". He said as he picked up his keys and we both left the office.

Really? I thought so this is what it takes to be a leader. Lots of sacrifices. I do not have the right to do what I want because some fools are looking up to me, but do they need to look up to someone don't they know what is right? don't they have brains? The whole thing annoyed me as I walked to my class. The English teacher was already in class. Gosh I hope I didn't miss important.

"Excuse me sir please can I come in?" I took an excuse hoping he'll let me in.

"Where are you from?" He asked with a stern look of his face.

"Sir,  I am from the Vp's office. He sent for me a while ago" I answered

"Go to your seat. And be careful not to let your responsibilities as the head girl to affect your academics". He said as he continued with the lesson.

School was over already and the VP didn't send for me so I decided to go to the hostel. I went to the mosque to pray zuhr. I left the mosque and headed straight to the dinning hall because I was told that I had to be there. The dinning hall was pretty much occupied today, probably because it's rice. I was standing at the second entrance of the dinning hall looking at the students to be precise. Actually I was suppose to be checking if these girls had the complete cutleries.

"Senior Nadia I don't have a spoon.pls can I enter?"

That was Zahra, she was doing what she knows how to do best.  She loves teasing and mimicking people,and now she is even mimicking junior students. Funny girl.

"No you can't, get back you naughty girl" I joked and we both laughed.

"Ehen head girl, I have been looking for you for a while now, Mr Nasir sent for the both of us. I didn't see you so I went alone and he gave me these papers. He said you should distribute them to the prefects and each prefect must get a copy. I would have done that but he gave the order that you must do it yourself."

That was Mercy Ike, the Assistant Head girl. She is a sweetheart and I thank God that she is my assistant and not someone else. I and mercy have been very good friends from Jss1. We were in different hostels but that didn't stop us from being close. Some people complained about the religion difference and they feared that she'll influence me into changing my religion but that never happened. The truth is that she always reminded me to pray when it's time and she always followed me to the mosque but she'll wait outside. I liked her a lot but due to some circumstances we grew distant but we never stopped being friends.

"What papers are these?" I asked Mercy

"They are in your hands and you are asking me, well if you  are that lazy then I'll tell you. These papers are the prefects duty Rooster for the next two months starting from today" she explained.

"Ohh, I exclaimed while going through a copy of the duty rooster. But I can't find my name, neither can I find yours I complained to mercy.

"Ohh well, the thing is we have been excluded. We are always free. No duty for the head girl and assistant" she screamed.

"Wow, that is cool" I shouted.

"Why are you guys busy jubilating?" Zahra asked.

"Nothing serious,we are just happy because we have been spared the stress of being on duty" I ended with a big smile

"Hmm that sounds nice but it's not fair. It really isn't fair" Zahra said looking at us angrily.

"Zahra the thing is you cannot be angry at us because the duty rooster wasn't written by us, go to Mr Nasir and ask him why he did that". Mercy said while locking the door

She picked up the bell and said the prayer. Food was served and every one finished in no time. I guess the food was delicious then, the thing is that we are not allowed to eat anything until other students are done. Could you just imagine? Just like servants waiting for the royal family to eat before they do.

We were done eating in the PDA ( Prefects' dinning area) and I was distributing the duty rooster.

"Hey everyone is done eating and I thought I could join you guys" we heard Mr Nasir's saying and everyone laughed.

"But sir there is more. If you want some, I can just dish out some for you" mercy said going towards the food flask.

"No don't worry I'm okay I was just joking. Well,the thing is I came here to tell you guys to get ready, we are all going to WAWAN RAFI on Saturday and the students should be out by six a.m". Mr Nasir ended.

Wow I am so excited although I don't know what wawan rafi is neither do I know why we are going.
