The night was quiet, except for the sound of leaves being crushed beneath Red's boots. Red was on night patrol in the woods that night, making sure all was well. She turned her head upon hearing a sound in the distance of the darkened woods. She raised her crossbow at eye level to spot the source of the sound. It was a...wolf. Just a wolf. Red could hear the clouds above the treetops crackle with the readying thunder. She locked her eyes back onto the wolf. The wolf let out a silencing howl to the moon before running off into the darkness. It began to pour from the storming clouds as Red retreated home.
"Scarlet, darling, you're home," Scarlet's mother smiled upon the sight of her soaked daughter as she entered the front door.
"Hey mom," Red sighed, but gave a slight smile. Her mother approached her, wrapping her arms around her in a warm embrace.
"How was patrolling?" Red turned to see her father leaning against the doorframe that lead to the kitchen.
"It was fine, no signs of monsters out there tonight," red replied, retreating from her mother's hug to unzip her wince breaker.
"Good, I'll patrol tomorrow night, dinner's on the table if you're hungry. I'm going to turn in early." And with that, her father passed her and her mother, walking up the stairway.
