It was Monday, the day Leila dreaded the most was finally here,the day Danny would come over to collect his music. It was almost three and Leila was in the bathroom making herself look presentable for a interaction that would last as mer handful of seconds. She wondered why she was making such an effort to look nice for a boy that she'll probably never see again as he's already graduated. Leila's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her dog barking at the sound of someone knocking on the door.
Leila ran to her room to get the music and quickly turned around and rushed to the door pushing her dog out the way. As she opened the door everything seemed to be in slow motion as her eyes took in the sight of her old drum major. Danny spoke breaking Leila out of her trance.
Danny: "Hey, uh can I come in?"
Leila carelessly let Danny in forgetting the rules of social distancing, neither of them wearing a mask or taking any other precautions.
Danny: "Um, can you show me to the bathroom?"
Leila: "Uh, ya, sure."
Leila lead Danny to the bathroom and went to go wait for him on the couch by the front door. Leila's mind was racing with so many thoughts, they were incomprehensible.
As Danny stood in the bathroom he stared at himself in the mirror trying to calm himself down. The fact of the matter was that he didn't need to use the bathroom but was extremely nervous as he planned that today would be the day that he tells Leila how he feels. After a quick pep talk in the mirror he exited the bathroom making his way to the front door again.
Leila heard the door of the bathroom open and instantly stoop up looking at her side to see Danny walking over.
Leila: "Uh, here's your music."
Danny: "Thanks."
The pair stood at the front door staring at each other for a good minute in complete silence.
Leila: "So-"
Danny: "I-"
They both stared speaking at the same time becoming instantly flustered.
Leila didn't know what she was doing her body just moved on it's own and before anyone knew it, she had Danny locked in a tight embrace. Both of their faces now extremely red.
Leila: "Uh! I'm sorry!"
Leila tried to pull away but Danny returned the embrace back stopping her. The two just stood there again before Danny broke the silence.
Danny: "Listen Leila, I've been meaning to tell you this for a while now, it's just that quarantine has messed everything up. I, uh. How do I say this? I. *sight* I like you Leila. I like you a lot."
Leila was in shock, did her crush just confess to her. She didn't know what to say or do, she just stood in the embrace in complete and utter shock.
Leila: "I. I like you too Danny."
She finally managed to speak. Danny could help but smile and he back up out of the hug just enough to see her face. They were so mesmerized in each others eyes that they didn't notice their bodies leaning towards each other.
And just as they were about to kiss Leila was rudely awaken my her cat eating the string on the blinds above her head. She quickly grabbed her phone and read Friday, May 29 9:15p.m. Was that all a just a dream? Did she really just sleep the whole day? She rushed to the group chat and only saw messages about lip gloss and Jojo. Leila's mind was racing, it felt too real to be a dream. She decided to walk to the kitchen and get something to eat.
While waiting on the microwave Leila felt her phone vibrate in the pocket of her shorts. She pulled her phone out and the notification read:
Danny❤️: "I'm glad you feel the same way ☺️"
