A Christmas to Remember
By Bailey Gibson
It was Christmas Eve, and Lili, Vash, and you were in charge of getting Lili ready for the Christmas Eve Mass. It was currently about eleven o’clock, and you had just gotten done setting up the bathroom for Lili’s surprise. You had let her sleep in so you would have time to get it all ready. Smiling at your work, you went downstairs to whip up a quick batch of pancakes with shredded Swiss chocolate on top, just the way Lili liked them. After you had cleaned the pan and set the table, you wet up to Lili’s room and woke her up.
She yawned as her big green eyes opened for the first time that morning. “W-What time is it?” She asked in a sleepy voice I the middle of a yawn.
You smiled at how adorable she was. “It’s almost twelve o’clock now.”
Lili shot out of bed. “Oh, big bruder will be angry that I woke up so late!”
“Lil! Lil! It’s okay, don’t you know what today is?”
She stopped her frenzied attempt to make her bed and get ready and appeared to think real hard. Suddenly, her whole face lit up. “Oh! It’s Christmas!” She turned to you and gave you a huge hug. “Merry Christmas, (Y/N)!”
You laughed at her childishness. “Do you know what I have waiting for you downstairs, Lili?”
Her eyes widened, and her huge grin became even bigger. “Chocolate pancakes!”
She hot out of the room like a bullet, making a beeline for the kitchen downstairs. For the past eleven years that you had lived the Zwingli’s you had done this for her, and had become somewhat of a Christmas tradition in this house. .You heard a squeal come from the kitchen and you headed downstairs before all of the pancakes were gone. You walked into the kitchen to find Lili looking as though she was deep in thought. ‘What’s wrong, Lili?”
“Where’s big bruder at? I haven’t seen him yet this morning, and he’s always up before I am...” She looked at you quizzically.
“Don’t worry, I just had Rodrick and Feli distract him for the day until mass so we could have some girl time after breakfast. Now, eat so you can see your second surprise!”
Lili quickly ate her pancakes and rinsed her plate. She then turned to you. “What's the surprise, (Y/N)!?”
“Wait right here; I’ll be right back!” You quickly ran upstairs and grabbed one of Vash’s ties to use as a blindfold for Lili. You returned to the kitchen, where Lili was impatiently waiting for your arrival. “Here, let me put this on you.” You quickly tied the neck tie over Lili’s eyes. “Can you see?”
“Nope!”
“Promise?”
“Yup!”
You carefully led her back upstairs to the master bathroom, where the surprise was set up. Positioning her in front of the mirror, you pulled off her blindfold with a flourish. Lili’s eyes widened at the sight before her. You had set up every hair, makeup, and body product you owned on the large countertop, almost filling it. Lili was dumbfounded. “What do you say to being my doll today, Lili?”
Stunned, she could only turn around and hug you. “Oh thank you big sister!”
You smiled into the hug. after a few years of you being around so much, she. had begun to start slipping up and calling you her you her big sister. “No problem.” You broke the hug to pick up two bathrobes you had hanging up. You handed one to Lili to put on and put on the other yourself. “Now we can get started!”
