On August 28th in 1955,
Young Emmett Till was murdered in the night.
Emmett Till, an innocent boy, was tortured beat and murdered, because of a lie that was told.
While visiting some family in another state,
He was warned by his mother that people there discriminate.
Emmett entered a store, to purchase some things,
And 4 nights later, he was severely beat.
He was supposedly heard, flirting with a white girl.
He was killed because of this, his open casket changed the world.
14 years young, his life was cut too short.
The killers plead "not guilty", the case dismissed in court.
And now here we are, 64 years gone by,
carolyn bryant, is the one who told a lie.
Because of a lie, a young boy lost his life,
And now here we are, racism still alive.
Years have gone by, and history repeats,
Eric Garner said "I can't breathe".
Trayvon Martin was shot, and his killer roams free.
George Floyd was murdered, his killer charged with third degree.
Ahmaud Arbery was killed, his murderers still free.
Innocent people murdered, their lives stolen by thieves.
Justice for Emmett, and Eric and Trayvon,
And many others, the list goes on.
Justice for those, who did nothing wrong,
Many lives lost, the list is too long.
You'll never understand, being judged by your skin.
We're born this way, we didn't commit a sin.
The only sin that exists, is those who discriminate,
Innocent lives lost, due to those consumed by hate.
If only people loved, as hard as they hate,
Then the world would be a better place.
Black lives matter, and together we'll stay strong.
Justice for George Floyd, his legacy will live on.
