16: Results

I then said, "We can do blood tests." She agreed and we left to go to the doctor.

We drove to the doctor's office and got blood drawn. We had to wait a few days so we went back to the BAU.

Everyone was staring at us and I said, "We have to wait a few days."

They rolled their eyes and waiting in suspense with us.

Emily invited me to her house and I decided to go. She opened the door and honestly we both didn't know what to do.

We sat in silence for a long time. I finally spoke up and said, "If the blood test confirms you are my mother, you don't have to explain anything."

She shook her head and asked, "Why did you start looking for her?"

"I had a dream one night about being in my biologicals mother's shoes. She was trying to get Samuel's attention but he wouldn't listen. Then, when I was kidnapped the house triggered so many memories but it's when I passed out at the BAU that day. I had a sort of vision of the same dream but this time I saw what she looked like and also what he looked like. She said Samuel, but he only said E. and then I woke up," I said not knowing if this is even true.

She sighed and said, "My mom and I moved a lot and my father didn't want anything to do with us, so when my mom had to live in Afghanistan for two years I went with her. It's hard to fit in when you move around a lot so I did anything to be accepted. Samuel was the popular senior of the school and I thought he was interested in me and he pressured me to have sex. I said yes but when we did it, he treated me like nothing and when I got pregnant he completely shut me out but he gave me an ultimatum: have an abortion, give the baby up for adoption, or keep the baby."

I stepped in and said, "You chose to give the baby up," and she nodded.

"My mom wasn't happy with me but she did support my decision but when I gave birth they took the baby away from me immediately and I never found out the gender or even get to hold it. After that, we moved back to the U.S. early to start new again," Emily said as she got another glass of wine.

I took a deep breath and said, "Well I also had a dream in a hospital where she gave birth and the doctors whisked the baby away. Not even letting her hold it."

She laughed and said, "What of the odds."

I agreed and said, "I never thought this would be the way I could ever meet my biological mother."

Emily took my hands and looked deep into my eyes and said, "If it is true what will happen after that because it's not that I don't want you but you are an adult and you don't need me."

I said, "Nothing, the begging question of who is my parents will be answered and I can move on. I may ask more questions if you're okay with that but really I just would want things to be back to normal."

It started to get late and I decided to leave and as I drove home tears were running down my cheeks because I thought about what Emily said, "...it's not that I don't want you but you are an adult and you don't need me." 

It's true I don't need her but if she is my biological mother will she treat me like her daughter like a true mother would?

I really wanted to say, "I do need you. I do need a mother," but I don't think she wants to be a parent and if she doesn't then I will respect that. 

I got home and went to my room and grabbed the letter from Zach and Franklin and ripped it up and threw it away. I was throwing all of my stuff making a mess and couldn't stop crying.

I fell onto my bed and sobbed until I fell asleep.

I woke up so late the next day. I rushed out of the house and put my hair in a messy bun. I run into the BAU and everyone was looking at me and Rossi asked, "Where were you? You were supposed to be home around 11."

I didn't answer him and just sat when Emily walked in and said, "The results are back."

I checked my email and she was about to say something but I left to and went to Alyssa's office and waited for her.

She walked in surprised and said, "You aren't supposed to be here until Friday...," but I guess she saw the despair on my face and let me in.

She asked what was wrong and I explained everything. I started to cry again and she asked, "Have you gotten the results back?"

I nodded and pulled it up but didn't open it.

"I- I- I can't. I can't open it. I'm scared," I sobbed and threw my phone on the ground and she picked it up and said, "I know the truth is hard to handle but that is what you wanted."

She took my phone and put it back into my hand and sat next to me saying, "I know you wanted a mother, and Emily may not want to be one, but you have already been through the worst of it. It is time for you to know the Truth and move on forward."

I looked at my phone and opened the email...

"positive...," I said and exhaled and felt nothing.

I just stared at my phone and Alyssa just gave me a hug. I stood up and left. I walked up to the BAU not making any eye contact with anyone and grabbed my keys and left.

I found myself driving to the prison that held Zach and Andrew.

I sat waiting for Andrew and said, "Where is Elanna?"
