- Mrs Johnson, the results of your blood test showed that you are pregnant, and as far as your pallor and headache are concerned, this is only the effect of pregnancy.
I was relieved, happy, shocked. I no longer knew what to think, what to say or do. I first thought of James who was waiting for me outside the room, was he going to be happy or he was not ready for a baby ?!
The doctor told me afterwards that I could go home and he went to speak with James. I got up from the bed quickly and opened the door, I fell directly on James with his mouth his mouth was wide opened, then he looked at me. I could see the tears in his eyes, I could see them. He thanked the doctor and turned to me, then smiled. A frank smile, a smile of happiness and gaiety.
Nine months later, we had our first baby, Hazel Miller. She had her father's eyes, but she was looking a lot more like me. The three of us lived the absolute happiness. We laughed, we played, we cried too, but the most important thing is that we loved each other.
A week before Hazel's second birthday, we decided to spend two weeks on vacation. On the way to Long Island, there was a nice atmosphere in the car, and we were singing like crazy. My little family was happy, and that's what was the most important to me. And then suddenly, without James having time to accelerate or brake, another car hit us violently and James' head hit the steering wheel.
I immediately lost consciousness, but not for long, since when I woke up, James was still unconscious. I saw blur, my limbs could hurt me and I couldn't move, but I still tried to calm Hazel who was crying in her seat. Blood was running down her face too, while I had that horrible, sticky taste in my mouth mixed with the salt of my tears. Very quickly, the howling sirens of the police and the paramedics sounded and the bright blue lights blinded me. For a moment, I thought I heard my mother's voice ordering me to get up, but I realized that it was only an illusion. Black dots were dancing before my eyes saw the rescuers took my wrist, then I quickly fell back into the dark....
- I just want you to know that I could give my life out of love for you, anytime! I love you so much ! I love you and know that I will always be there for you more than ever, no matter what happens. What really matters to me is you being here with us. I miss you a lot, Hazel miss you too, so please wake up! I love you Ava Miller!
I could hear my husband's voice, yes, I could. I opened my eyes little by little and found him sitting by my side, hands on his head looking at the ground. We were in a white room, and the sound of a machine was echoing in the room. I opened my mouth to speak but no sound came out, so I moved my hand to point out, which worked perfectly since James lifted his head and was shocked to see me awake.
-AVA! he said, placing a kiss full of tears on my forehead.
I made a sign to him and he quickly understood that I wanted to drink. He poured me a glass of water and also clicked on a button I presume to be the one to call the nurses.
I didn't even have time to finish my drink that two nurses ran into the room and came to check me. One of them left quickly following instructions from her teammate who was adjusting my serum.
After two minutes not even, a doctor walks into the room smiling.- Glad to see you finally wake up! We will do a little test to see if everything goes as planned, okay?
I nodded.
- Perfect, you can see and hear me, is that right ?
I nodded again.
- Can you talk ?
I tried to speak but no sound came out of my mouth.
- Try again Ava ...
So I forced myself and I finally spoke.
- Ok..e..y okey okey
I repeated it several times to make sure.
- Okey okey okey
- Can you tell me what's your name and how old are you ?
- My name is Ava Johnson Miller, and I am 25 years old.
- Perfect, you have not lost your memory, and that's good. So please now move your fingers and toes.
I moved my fingers without difficulty, as for my toes, it was impossible to move or feel them.
- Doctor, my ... toes, my feet ... I can't move them!
The doctor's smile suddenly faded and he calmly asked me to try again, but I still couldn't feel my feet.
- Don't panic, Mrs. Miller, we will make some tests to make sure of your condition.
I looked at James who was as shocked as I was, I knew he was thinking of the same thing as me: The handicap, and it was true. After the tests it turned out that I was handicapped after two weeks in a coma. I was suffering from an incomplete paraplegia and it was my destiny. I was destined to continue my life on a wheelchair...
