So Monday I got up and did it. I spoke. It didn't sound toddler-ish like I expected. It sounded mature. Like I'd made conversation everyday of my life. I was locked in my room.
"Hi. I'm October." I said and giggled. What I'm not telling you is that it took hours to do this but it made the moment oh so magical. "I can show you around." I said to my mirror. It was 5:03 before school and I figured I'd better practice before Ty and Lola woke up, and I saw Logan. "I'm sor-rr-y. I'm sorry." success. " No pr-rr-oblem." I said.
"Thank you. Hi ther-rre."
I was good enough to show Ty and Lola at least.
"Lola, wake up.'' I echoed through the house. "Ty! Get up!" Ty ran out armed with a pillow.
"Who are you?" screamed Tyson creeping through the house.
"Me." I didn't sound perfect but most people wouldn't notice.
"Woah." Ty said after he spun around to see me.
"October! Honey!" said Ms. Lola running to me. She was in her purple nightgown and her long silver-blonde hair flowed along behind her. Her thin arms embraced me and I accepted with a tight hug. A small celebration occurred and after we drove to school. I looked in the rear view mirror. What if he thought I was ugly? I am ugly. I cried quietly when I got out of the car and ran into the main building. I "dried it up" as I sat down in first hour. Logan was there. He had medium length, brown, wavy hair. He looked sad though.
"Logan are you okay?" Asked Mrs. Kerkley.
"Headache. I'm okay." he replied.
"Well someone can lead you to the nurse to get an Advil." she was always nice. Several hands rocketed up. I didn't blame them. Why would he need to be lead to the nurse though? All new students get the tour and the Nurses' Office was a long ways to walk but it was a straight path down the hall.
"Oh volunteers! How about..." Mrs Kerkley started.
"Me!" I shouted breaking the silence. Everyone turned around to see me. Except Logan. He held is head straight and stiff.
"October-" Mrs. Kerkley whispered. "Go! By all means you can take him!" she smiled and laughed in shock. Everyone was looking at me with eyes and mouths wide open. I scooted the wooden chair back against the tile floor with a screech. I got up, my legs clanking slightly. I walked over to Logan but he didn't react. When my eyes met his... his didn't meet mine. They were milky and blue like they had been frozen over. They scared me. I gasped silently and stepped back. I looked at Mrs. Kerkley and she shook her head forlornly. Logan didn't move because he was blind.

I slipped my hand into his and he stood up. He grabbed a cane beside his desk.
"Hi." I said. He smiled.
"Hey." he said. Despite his cold eyes-he was perfect. And his eyes weren't ugly, just different.
We took our time walking down the long corridor. We made small talk.
"So you couldn't hold anything until yesterday." he tested.
"Or tall-lk." I added
"Wow." he laughed. His arm was around my shoulders and he tapped his cane as we slowly walked along.
"My legs are metal. Not exactly the most gorgeous sight. My face looks like a painting of a girl, that got wiped with a rag before it dried." I said. I was amazed of my own vocabulary but keep in mind I had nine years of talking experience before the fire.
"Well good thing I'm blind." He laughed. "Because to me you seem lovely."
"I'm sure you don't think that all the time."
"We don't have disabilities." he said.
"What are tall-lking about?" I huffed.
"You and I, we just have reverse superpowers."
"Poetic." I said. His words had truth. We got to the nurse and he took his medicine.
"I like you." He said before we entered the classroom.
"I like you too."
