Autumn.

The start of a new school year.

She smiled at me in the hall.

Waved to me from the lunch line.

Slipped a friendly note into my locker to cheer me up.

I smiled at her in class.

Waved to her from the front of the school.

Slipped a thank you note into her backpack to remind her.

Remind her I'm alive.

Remind her that she smiled at me.

Waved to me.

Slipped a note into my locker to cheer me up.

And she smiled again.

And met me after school.

And we're friends.

Autumn.

Winter.

I gave her my scarf so she would be warm.

She gave me her hat as a gift and reminder of us.

Our friendship.

Ice skating.

She taught me how to ice skate.

She held my hand as we went in circles.

Her breath in a white cloud in front of her face.

How I wish she was mine.

Winter.

Spring.

The flowers bloom.

Her beauty blooms.

She is beautiful inside and out.

She's funny.

She's pretty.

She's kind.

She's smart, and clever, and all the good things wrapped into

a

single

person.

How I wish she knew how I think of her.

Spring.

Summer.

I can't hold the words in anymore.

So I tell her.

She stands there frozen.

I start to leave, realizing I made a mistake.

She grabs my hand,

grabs my other hand, and smiles at me.

My heart aches.

And she kisses me.

And I know, now,

what it's like being with her.

The endless sunflower fields,

the fluffy yellow clouds at sunset,

the bountiful fruit of our relationship.

We are no longer friends.

We are more than friends.

We are more than what people describe us.

Freaks, lonely.

We are more.

And we know we are.

And we celebrate.

Our friendship coming to an end.

Pushing forward to lovers.

And we celebrate.

And she knows now,

how I think of her.

And I don't wish she was mine.

Because she is.

And I love her.

The endless cycle.

Summer

makes

way

to

Autumn.
