Tara Rose POV
Most people would find it frustrating to have their whole life change. To move away from their town, home, old school, and go to a completely new city, sometimes a whole new country and live their life there.
Well for me it's completely normal.
My dad's a journalist. Wherever his job takes him, he follows. Wherever he follows, my mum, sister and I follow too.
I wouldn't exactly call it living the dream. Yes, I get to experience new places, and yes my family earns a fairly good amount of money since dad works for a great company that presents documentaries, and mum opened her own cupcake business. But sometimes I just want to settle down.
For many normal teenagers having a dad that travels around 24/7, would be frustrating especially because they're leaving their friends behind. Well I guess I'm not a 'normal' teenager.
I don't have any friends, I don't go to parties, I don't go to the mall and have Starbucks, I don't go out and get my nails done. I'm the type of girl who'd rather stay at home on my own, and play the piano. My whole life revolves around that instrument.
My Grandfather from my Mum's side was a pianist, it's kind of like a family legacy actually. He taught her everything there is too know about the piano and she loved it. It's unfortunate she had to give it up as a proffesion when she had my big sister Brooke and I. My dad was only working part time, and my mum needed a stable job that would give a guarentee pay. Seeing as my mum was in the early stages of her career, being a pianist was not the option.
Before my Grandfather died he taught me the piano, just like he taught my mum. Just like her, I loved it.
My middle name is Melody. My mum told me that my Grandfather actually picked this name. He said that if Melody was my middle name, it would always remind me of him. So if ever I was in any doubt, whether it was generally or musically, I would know that my Grandfather was guiding me from wheverever he was. Even if that place was heaven.
"Family meeting!" My dad shouted.Great, what has Brooke done now?
Myself and Brooke were polar opposites. While I liked quiet nights in listening to music, Brooke liked to go out to parties and get recklessly drunk. While Brooked liked pencil skirts that were so short you could basically see her undergarments, I liked baggy sweatpants and onesies.
"Brooke you melon, what've you done now?" I asked, as I knocked on her door.
"This time, nothing I swear." She answered, with her hands up in defence. As different as me and my sister are, we have quite a strong bond seeing as she's my only friend if I'm honest. Don't I sound popular? Not. She's 19 and I'm 17, so the age gap isn't that big.
We walked downstairs laughing our heads off, as Brooke told me a hilarious story about a party she went to last night. But as soon as we saw the seriousness in our parent's faces we went dead silent.
"This is the part I hate the most." My dad whispered to my mum, but we could still hear him. Evidently, he is a rubbish whisperer.
My heart started thumping so much so, for a second I thought I could even hear it. We're moving, I can just tell.
"Brooke, Tara Rose..." My Mum began, ushering us to take a seat. "Your dad has been offered a massive Job oppurtunity, to be a news presenter on a major channel. It's offering to pay way more then the documentary company was." Mum rambled on.
"If it works out we could be living the dream girls. But of course there is a slight downside. In order for me to have this job, we need to move to America in one month." My dad explained.
