"No!"
"No?" He questions.
My eyes are wide and I'm panicking. But when I hear the stool scrap against the floor, I lose my mind.
"Rei-" I bite my tongue before I can even finish and look over my shoulder.
"Kira," Maddie calls out. "Everything okay?"
I nod, giving her a convincing smile and walk out of the apartment before she can protest.
In the hall, I stand against the wall, staring at the number engraved on the door.
"Kira," I hear him say. He sounds annoyed and tired. "I don't want this any more than you-"
I barely get the chance to reply when he hangs up. And just like that, I feel -actually, I know that we're doomed.
I should've never tried to keep this from her.
"Fuck!" I scream while gripping the phone in my hand.
The door opens and Maddie is leaned against the threshold, her face contorted with worry.
"Is everything okay?" She asks, crossing her arms. She frowns. "Who was that?"
I gulp, "Yeah. . ."
My attention is grasped when the elevator chimes letting out a built man in formal wear. He looks too expensive for this place with his clean white shirt and navy slacks.
My knees suddenly feel weak when I catch the determination in his dark eyes. His sharp jaw clenches as he walks, looking straight at me.
I press up against the wall giving him space to pass but he doesn't, instead, he stands so close to me with a gut wrenching smile. He looks older up close, which makes me feel small beside him.
My eyes widen as realisation strikes and I look at Maddie. Her eyes are wide too, with shock and she shifts her gaze to me.
Then he stretches his hand to Maddie andd in the smoothest voice he says,"I don't believe we've met. I'm Randall."
I roll my eyes, of course.
She looks at him, then back at me in question. I merely shrug, feeling a little panic.
Here we go again.
"Madilyn." She replies firmly shaking his hand. "You are . . .?"
"Kira's fiance."
That alone is enough for me to choke on my own saliva. I cough and pat my chest, praying that I heard wrong.
Fiance?
What the hell?
"Ex-cuse me?" I speaks in between coughs.
I look at my sister and her eyes are wider than saucers.
"Fiance." She nods glancing between me and the man.
"Oh don't be like that sweetheart." He looks at Maddie. "She didn't tell you?" He says unapologetically.
Sweetheart?
