Part 5 (Jess and Jesse)

Jess
He and his sister leapt back perfectly in sync before the goop could infect them. He raced around the back of the spider as Jesse mocked it, "Is your aim really that bad? You can't even catch me!" Jess wondered a little about that statement. If anyone could escape this sorta beast it would be her. They did save the world time and time again after all..

The tarantula beast roared furiously at his twin and continued chasing her, seeming to completely forget about Jess' existence. Perfect. He tightened his grip on Miss Butter. The sight of Petra's blank, but somber expression flashed back into his mind. He gritted his teeth. Now let's take this beast down and get everyone back to normal.

Jesse
"Is your aim really that bad? You can't even catch me!" A pregnant lady! She mocked the beast. After yelling that out, she questioned whether that was a good idea to say that. The beast probably couldn't even understand her. But Jess could. She glanced quickly at him to see a confused look on his face as though to say, "Of course it can't catch you if all people..? Why wouldn't it?"

She shook it off and chucked another ender pearl across the room. She appeared right beside Radar.

"Jesse.. Lukas.. not you guys too.. you're like the parents I never had. What will I do without you..? Who can I go to?" He was crumpled up on the ground in a pathetic ball, "Carrigan is gone too.. I'm all alone.." Jesse put a hand over her mouth as her eyes watered. He thought of her and Lukas as his own parents! It hurt to see him like this. She just wanted to squeeze him in her arms and reassure him that this was just an illusion.

But she had a job to do.

With the spider approaching her new spot and not wanting to hear any more from Radar, she stuck her tongue out at the beast and threw the ender pearl.

What's taking Jess so long?

Once she appeared at her new spot, she turned and called, "Catch me if you can!" She felt like a kid again. She used to mock Axel, Olivia, and Jess when they'd play Shark Attack in the lake by their treehouse. She always loved swimming, and became a dedicated competitive swimmer from sixth grade to graduation. She still loved to swim to this day.

Suddenly, the monster made an odd clicking sound with its mouth, and she felt a band grab her ankle firmly. "Wha-" She looked down to see Petra's other had grip her other ankle. Radar and Lukas' heads flung in her direction.

It must be controlling them! With her being held tightly, the spider crept towards her. She started to throw the pearl when out of the corner of her eye she saw Lukas race with inhuman speed to her and tackle her to the ground. The pearl only went a few feet away from her. She remained on the ground, panting for a moment. Radar raced to her with insane speed next and pinned her to the ground, "You left me. You said you hate me."

"No! I didn't! That was an illusion!"

Petra grabbed her tightly, "I will never fight again. All because you failed to protect me, and worst of all, you failed to protect Jess."

"Guys!" Jesse called, "You need to snap out of it!"

Lukas grabbed her chin and forced her to stare into his bleak green eyes, "You failed to deliver our baby. I am not a father because of you." He growled.

Jess
Jess held himself up, as he was in a spot high on the ceiling he clung to with his hook shot. He was waiting for the critter to be in the right spot for the surprise attack. Everyone had Jesse pinned down, and all seemed to be saying awful things to Jesse. She kept shaking her head and denying anything was her fault, and insisting everything was an illusion. The spider started creeping toward her once again. It was right where he wanted it. He released the grip of the hook shot, quickly tucked it away, and gripped Miss Butter tightly with both hands, pointing the sword straight down. "Hey Ugly!" It gawked up at the falling warrior. Thrusting the blade in the exact spot he aimed for, it dig through the metal on its head and straight through it's skull, down its throat.

It shrieked with a horrible, ear-splitting sound. Jess was tempted to cover his ears, but he stayed persistent on his mission. He twisted the sword, and it screeched even more.

Jesse
Jesse screamed from pain of the creature's sound in her ears. With her arms pinned, she couldn't cover her ears. She glanced in Jess' direction. He mercilessly dug the blade deeper into its skull. Purple blood flew out in all directions before the beast collapsed to the ground. Jess yanked Miss Butter from it, but stepped to the side, ready, just in case this was an act. It started twitching madly, then the twitches slowly died down to a stillness. She could tell that Jess wanted to turn and check on his friends, but he wouldn't allow his focus to leave this monster even for a second until he knew it was done for.

It poofed away, but the blood remained, staining the floor and everyone in the room. Radar, Lukas, and Petra's grips on her loosened. Petra's head dropped, as she was already laying on the floor. Lukas dropped straight onto Jesse's chest, and Radar collapsed to the side. Jesse reached up and caught his head before too rough of a landing took place.

Jess turned, "We did it, Sis." He slumped to the ground beside Petra, exhausted from his effort of holding himself up so long, then stabbing the monster with such strength. He turned Petra over and lifted her up safely into his arms again, cradling his unconscious fiancé from side to side.

Jesse eased her hand out from under Radar, then lifted Lukas up so she could sit up. She rotated her body a little and pulled Radar to her, then rested his and Lukas' heads on her legs.

She lifted Lukas's eyelid and was relieved to see that his eye was back to normal, "How long do you think it'll take for them to wake up?" She asked.

"I'm not sure." Jess said, "Hopefully soon, but not so soon we don't get to catch our breaths." He joked.

Jesse's finger traced Lukas' scar on his lip, then down his jaw, "Yeah." She giggled. She turned to look at Radar and remembered what he said, she felt a new love for him, knowing he too saw her as family. As odd as it was, she felt the same way about him for quite some time. She brushed his hair back into place. "Thank you Jess." We wouldn't have made it through this without you." She panted.

He smiled, "It's my job as your brother to protect you, isn't it?"
