I announced my pregnancy and the fact that we were moving back to our hometown at the same time. Camp Oliver was home and it was time to move back.
We were moving out of the Short Creek house because the landlord had decided to sell. We weren't in the position financially to buy it and besides that it creeped me out.
Once again we were moving into the little rental house where everything started back in 1994. The tornado had hit the little house and it had sat empty for over a year. There was lots of work to be done.
We started off with a new roof and Sheetrock. We then moved on to the cosmetic things such as paint and wallpaper. It was fun fixing up the little place that had given us our start.
Although I was pregnant there was some things that needed to be discussed between Dick and myself. I just wasn't sure how to bring it up.
I finally found my nerve and told him. I wasn't sure who the baby belonged to. He was furious. He had thought there was no chance of the baby being Billy's but I had to be honest. We were trying to get back on track. Honesty was the best start.
I was not ready to hear what he had to say. He said "if that baby comes out with black hair, you are going to give it up for adoption". I felt like the breath was sucked right out of me. How could he even begin to think that I could do that to my child?
I know he was coming from a place of hurt when he said it, but it was so out of character for him. I was so positive that he could love a child that wasn't his. Had I judged him wrong? Would this pass?
My pregnancy was going along as normal. We found out that we were having a girl. We started picking out names and getting ready for the arrival of our little bundle.
On April 13,2000 we welcomed our little girl into this world. We named her Haley. She was perfect. She was 6'11oz and was a whopping 19 inches long. The best part was she looked just like her brother Rosco when he was born.
This was great news because now there was no way Dick would even mention giving her up for adoption. (Not like that was gonna happen anyway). Dick was totally in love with his little girl. She had him wrapped around her finger from the moment she was born.
Time to relax and be a happy little family for a little while. I can finally breathe!!
