Touching Spirit Squirrel

By: Andy Roegiers

Chapter 1:  It was a full moon and not a cloud in the sky on the night that Carl had to leave to get on the one way boat ride to Hawaii.

"Carl, are you ready to spend three whole years in Hawaii?" asked Gravy.

"No, I'm not ready, why would I be ready?" replied Carl.

"Jeez, it was just a question," replied Gravy

"Could you close and tint the windows? I don't want anyone to see me in here," Carl begged.

After a couple minutes fighting with Carl, Gravy agreed to close all of the windows. But he wouldn't tint them.

Gravy is Carl's parole officer. He is the one taking Carl to California, to get on a plane. And when they land in Hawaii Gravy will meet up with one of his closest friends. Then they are flying to Hawaii for Carl's punishment.

Carl sighed as he thought about how hard it was to leave his house, when suddenly, Gravy slammed on the brakes.

"Sorry, the guy in front of me cut me off," explained Gravy, "Look kid I know you don't want to go to Hawaii, and I don't want to take you there. But it's for you own good. There is no good done by taking you to the McDonalds Playhouse if you're just going to get happy there, so we are taking you to Hawaii so you can be able to stay angry, and stop killing people in the process."

Carl is being sent to Hawaii because he killed a 17 year old boy. The boy was none other than the mayor's son, Paul. You see, Paul stole from a local grocery store so Carl tried to stop him with a pair of nun chucks, but as you can see he killed Paul in the process. Paul's step-brother, Noland, was devastated at the loss of his one and only step-brother.

"Well, we're not in Kansas anymore!" Gravy said, laughing at his own stupid joke.

Carl ignored Gravy's joke because he was thinking about his mandatory Square Patriotism meetings he had after killing Paul.

Square Patriotism is a program for people who don't think they will ever be able to change themselves. Hardly anyone gets help from this group, but few do make the grade, and get help.

Then it dawned on Carl, he had finally figured out what Gravy's boring green bean casserole lesson meant. It meant that ingredients can be great on their own, but together they are disgusting and horrible. Carl couldn't believe his breakthrough. Gravy said the only way to get better is to figure out life lessons, and that is why you go to school.

Carl was going to the Hawaiian island of Maui because Edward, the Dakota Indian Tribe Leader, decided that Carl could, should, and will use three years on an Alaskan island, but the Square thought it would get a little too cold for Carl to live there for three years. So they went with Maui, Hawaii.

Chapter 2:  Later that nice evening, Carl was put into a McDonalds Playhouse in California. They stopped in California to rest up before heading out to Hawaii.

Carl sat staring at the tile ceiling thinking about his mom, and how she had beaten him senseless with her favorite leather belt. And how his dad just stood there, sober, watching Carl get beaten until bruises formed on his bruises. Carl shivered at his horrific memories.

He blamed one person for all of his problems, his pet goldfish named Fluffy. He knew Fluffy had connections with God, he just knew it. One day, he was so angry that he threw Fluffy onto his bed and attacked it in a fury, but Fluffy floated away. And from that day on, Carl knew the fish that flew away and then came back into his fishbowl, had a great connection with God.
