Hola! It has been a long time since I wrote this, but I had some quality work going! Why drop it now, during the most boring summer ahead?! I'm almost 20 now, so this might be a lot better.
------
So, finally my last day of middle school was over! A small hitch in the plan, but nothing that would hold me back from having an awesome summer ahead! I started my walk home, but was quickly interrupted by a worrisome look on my best friend's face.
"What are you doing here, I thought you would've headed home an hour ago?!" I couldn't believe she waited for me on the last day.
"Well my mom told me she wasn't going to be able to pick me up today so I was just going to walk but then I figured I would just wait for you. Doesn't matter- Why were you talking to Archie after detention, huh? I thought you didn't like him?" She waited around just so she could tease me over nothing, great.
"Hal Pal, I told you already. I have no feelings for that boy! I just thought it was so weird because he didn't make a sound today in detention. Isn't that weird?!" It was!
"M, you seriously can't be the only girl in the now recently graduated 8th grade glass who doesn't think that Archie is a total dream boat. I mean, have you seen his eyes?" Here we go about the eyes. I had to make this stop, immediately.
"Hallie, seriously just drop it okay? I asked him what was up and he gave me some crap about maybe he actually cares about grades or whatever. It was not big deal, and there is no need to make it one." We were about to split and walk home our separate ways for a final time and I didn't know how much I'd see her that summer.
"I love you, girl. Come here" We hugged and went our separate ways without another word about it.
That's what I liked about her. She could tease me about something one second, but she knew when it was time to drop it and start again later. I would miss her when I left at the end of the summer, but she had no idea I was going. And to be fair, neither did I at the time. I made the rest of my walk home and plopped onto the couch to bask in the glory that is Air Conditioning while I scrolled through Instagram. Everybody was posting last day photos with their group of friends.
I just had Hallie, and that was all I needed.
Soon enough I was called for dinner and mom and I sat down in front of the TV to chow down on some Mac & Cheese she made.
"So how was your last day of school?" She inquired.
"It was fine. I might have gotten a detention but I swear it wasn't my fault- "she cut me off before I could fully explain.
" A detention! What could you have done on the last day to earn yourself a detention?"
"Well if you had let me finish I would've told you that some kid in class was going to earn everybody a detention and I didn't think that was fair because I just knew he would, so I told the teacher that wasn't fair and she gave me one too. " It was a mouthful.
"Well stop being such a smart aleck and maybe you wouldn't have had to do that. Whatever. How was your detention then?" She didn't seem to care too much about the circumstances anymore.
"It was fine, the kid actually kept quiet during detention, so."
"So? You should find a better way to end your sentences than 'so...' okay?" she was always trying to get me to say things in a better way.
"Okay, I will. Can I be done now?" I had finished dinner and wanted to go finish reading a book I was close to the end on.
"Yes, but hey! Take mine too!" She always stopped me to take her bowl. I didn't ever mind it though.
