Ch. 1

The moon wasn’t present the night it happened. That meant the night sky was chilly and dark, making it a very eerie atmosphere. The dogs in the town seemed to be in a different world as they stared at the sky wondering where the moon was but they didn’t make a sound. The cat’s usual midnight prowls were canceled as they, trance-like, curled up on their sleeping humans’ feet.

The little town of Natimoy, was in a magic like trance unbeknown from humans. Only one house had the lights on. The house of Sarah Moon. Ms. Moon knew of the silence but was used to it every single new moon during witching hours. In fact, Sarah Moon didn’t think this wasn’t the least bit unusual.

Sarah Moon looked down on her thin wrist where there was a big watch located on her right one. It was gold with a thin velvet covered leather strap. It was a priceless gift from him. The time on the golden watch read 12:05. Ms. Moon let out a big sigh as she waited for the right time, the time it happened.

Ms. Moon was a very young but mature lady. She was in her early twenties about to be legalized to drink the very next day. She had bright purple eyes which kept changing according to her emotion. Many thought she was a freak, a lot thought she was a demon but Sarah Moon ignored them and lived on with her life. The only person who didn’t think that she was a freak was, of course, him.

As Sarah Moon sat on the couch waiting for him, she braided her long brown hair. It was wavy with bright blonde streaks running through it. She spent 30 minutes braiding her hair into 8 different small ones. She then glanced at the reflection of herself in the window and took the braids out. Sighing with boredom, she started to braid them again, the only thoughts that she had now were the words her mother taught her: Remember Sarah, honey. Left over middle, right of middle, left over middle, right over middle…

She kept whispering the words under her breath, her fingers like spiders legs intertwining a web. Her hair was finally braided into two braids that fell over her chest. Not knowing what to do next she started to fiddle with the zipper on her crimson red windbreaker that had on the front, Team Edward because Sarah Moon liked vampires better than werewolves, although she had never seen or read anything of the Twilight Series until that week.

She had started and finished Twilight: New Moon, the 2nd one this week. Her friend Andrea Grimauld said she wasn’t spending enough time with the modern world because she read both Twilight and New Moon in only 5 days. Just thinking of the thought of her silvery blonde friend made Sarah Moon smile for she had known her for a long time.

She checked her watch again which now read the time 12:58. She decided that it was time to go see him. She put on her fuzzy warm socks which were about close to being black from wearing them every day. She shoved her brand new pink Nike SBs on her feet and she ran out the door into the darkness of the night.

The night air hit her like a stone falling into water. Sarah Moon immediately hugged herself, shivering against the cold breeze which was biting at her nose. Her crimson Team Edward jacket wasn’t helping her against the cold. She could feel herself getting slowing down but she knew she couldn’t miss him. She pressed on surpassing her body limit.

As Sarah Moon walked down the dark sidewalk she could sense something or someone following her. Ms. Moon first felt like she was just imagining it but after a while she was sure she was being followed. She started to tremble not of the cold but out of fear. Whatever it was, it probably wasn’t human. Sarah Moon thought it was unusual that a human would be out at this time but yet she was a human out at witching hours, so she scratched that thought.

She turned right down a dirt road with fields of wheat growing on the right. The golden color of wheat was invisible, for Sarah Moon loved the golden color of wheat. Ms. Moon took a deep breath through her nose as she inhaled the familiar scents of the river to her left.
