Cara peered into the chasm.
It stretched across the barren plains like a rip, a mark of thunder. Instead of deep, dark blackness, a small purple glow pulsed beneath the depths. It was as if the Earth had split into two, revealing the blazing core.
She glanced up.
Standing across the other side of the chasm was a man a few years older than her. He had sunkissed skin, wearing only a pair of white pants tucked into a pair of boots that shone silver at the edges. A neat mass bronze hair sat on his head, matched with molten silver eyes that seemed to break through his darkly amused expression.
"What do you think is inside?" His tone was casual and taunting.
Cara looked down once more, chills racing down her spine. "I don't know."
When she looked up, the man was gone.
In his place was a tall, energetic-looking man with a pleasant looking face, silver streaks running across his finely trimmed hair. He wore a simple attire that reminded her of a business man in the 90s.
The man stood upright, his eyes staring into Cara's. There were no soul in them.
Before Cara can cry out for him, he jumped into the chasm.
Cara woke up gasping.
She was back at her room. All was silent except for for Cara's hoarse breathing and the chorus of crickets.
Her glance came to the window. The moon was gone, but there was barely any signs of dawn. Her gaze shifted to her alarm clock.
The numbers blinked to five thirty-eight.
Well, that was an improvement, Cara thought as she wiped off beads of sweat on her forehead.
It was already four days since the nightmares started. Each and every nightmare had the same storyline, except that there was always a different person every time the man disappeared.
Mom, Nora, Alex. All falling down the abyss.
Tonight it was her father.
Cara sighed and plopped her head back onto the bed, replaying the nightmare again and again before her eyes. She had gave up trying to get back to sleep days ago. The minute she closed her eyes, she could hear someone screaming, and she would wake up again.
How long was this going to go on for her?
She allowed herself a small yelp of frustration and yanked her quilt away, watching it crumple at her doorstep. She shifted to put her feet on the floor when she heard her phone buzz.
Cara looked up. She could see a glowing screen on the study table, which didn't seem to be at a convenient distance for this situation.
She groaned, then decided to simply stare at the phone from her bed.
After a few seconds, she leaped up from her bed lunged for the phone.
It was a message from Nora.
Cara bit her lower lip, the image of Nora falling down flashed before her eyes. She opened the messaging app.
omg this show is crap brandon and emma broke up wtf is there another season
Cara smiled, and typed.

She didn't have to wait for long before the fangirl replied.
