"'Human, adjective, relating to; or characteristic of humankind. Noun, a human being.' But what makes us human? What defines and shapes our species? We have changed and evolved so much overtime that our ancestors would no longer recognise themselves if they looked in the mirror. Technology has become so advanced that immortality is achievable in our lifetime, and 90 percent of fatal diseases are reversable. But has this changed the definition of being human? Does mortality make us human?"
The hand hovered above the keyboard, deciding what would be best to write next. A thoroughly researched essay on the definition of humanity. It had to be powerful, powerful enough to make the government change their minds. But it already seemed too late. The hand saved the document and closed the laptop. It lifted the empty coffee cup and left the study.
Walking down the hallway, the hand paused in front of a mirror. The other hand moved from their side and ruffled the short, brown hair on top of their head. Their deep green eyes seemed weary from the many hours spent researching and typing in front of the old computer, the dark circles underneath betrayed the sleep they had lost. Their clothes were worn and wrinkled, unwashed and dirty from hours slaving away in front of the screen. They sighed, knowing they would have to tidy up and look presentable if they were to stand in front of the Government.
