I sat at the dinner table flinging my carrots from one side of the plate to another. "Stop playing with your food Amaya." Mother said from the other side of the table.
"Is something on your mind sweetheart?" Father asked as he noticed that I hadn't talked much ever since I found out I had hurt Daniela. I nodded slowly because I really wasn't feeling well. My mother seeing that put down her fork. She gave me a concerned face.
"What's wrong? Was that kid someone you knew?" I nodded again. She looked at me with a sad expression.
"Who was she to you Amaya?" Her voice hit me. I paused a minute before answering.
"M-my friend Daniela..." My voice quivered. My mother looked down and my father stared at me. I felt like I was being interrogated like my mother said she was when she used to be a villain. I unlike both my parents don't have any confidence in myself. I was not brave, sneaky, or good looking. I was just an ordinary kid with telepathic powers. My parents thought it was weird that I had telepathic powers when they didn't. Mother said I probably got it from her long lost brother's side of the family. Father would then say that her brother was a bluff she made up to get away with one of her crimes back when she would get into a lot of trouble. In the end, they would end up arguing again while I walk up to my room and listen to music. This was the normal routine for the Violet family.
"That's it. Hitomi we are not discussing this anymore we're sending her to the hero's boarding school. That's final." Father said as the got up and washed his hands. Mother's head shot up and she shot a glare at my father.
"Oh no she isn't! We're sending her to Villan school." My mother retorted.
"Villain school? Where do you even find a school willing to teach Villain's?" My father yelled. My mother stood up.
"The Underground system that's how." She shot back.
"I am not sending our daughter through the Underground system!" And there they went again. It seems like arguing is something that my parents did amazing in.
I got up and walked to my room. Shutting my door to quiet the angry voices from downstairs.
This was the thing about my family. Normal kids at my school only have hero parents or Villain parents but I got a hero and a villain. Most people bullied me because of that. I mean if you live in my family you get two choices hero or villain. It was like the world was asking me to choose between my mother or my father.
Now don't get me wrong I loved my parents and sure they didn't get along with each other well but I still remember a time when my family was happy. A time where there weren't arguments every single day. A time where I didn't have to worry about what I was to become. A time when everything felt just right.
I remember how my mother and father would kiss each other goodbye each day and how they would read two stories every night for me.
Now that all feels like a distant memory and to make matters worse, Daniela, my best friend, was in the hospital... because of me.
Out of all the thoughts that ran through my head that night only one rang louder than the others.
'Who am I?'
