Prologue

Darkness.

All I see is darkness. My head spins, and for a moment I can't tell what way is up and what way is down. Hazy memories come back to me as my mind slowly comes back to life.

Jake.

Guns.

Mother.

Kidnapped.

Panic starts to cloud my senses and my heart constricts. I try to move but I'm too weak. I don't have a clue where I am. The first thing I start to feel is a tingling sensation behind my eyes accompanied by a pit of sadness in my gut.

I start to cry. Tears of confusion, uncertainty and panic start to burn down my face. I try to move once more. I feel coarse rope entwined around my wrists, and the cold rigid metal of a chair beneath my legs. A rough bag is slung over my head, surrounding me in darkness. I hear faint voices, deep and menacing. Tears flow faster and harder down my face.

Where am I?

More importantly, where is Jake?

The bag is ripped off of my head, light penetrates my eyes, blinding me at first. A hazy dark figure spins in front me, slowly coming into focus.

Chase. Even just thinking of the name fills me with a terrorising hatred and confusion.

His gaze softens as he looks at what a complete mess I am.

"Aww baby. Don't cry, you're safe now," he smiled. He leant in closer to my face as I squirmed away from his sickening touch. Gently, he touched his lips to each of the tear drops streaming down my face. He pulled back slightly to hold me in his gaze, licking his lips slowly.

On instinct I whipped my head forwards, head budding him directly to the nose.

"OW!!!!!!! W-W-WHADIKA?!?! WHAT THE HELL DUDE?!" He screeched, falling backwards and holding his face in pain. I noticed blood start to pour from his hands.

"Oops," I glared.

He scowled back at me and turned away in anger. "You deal with her now!" He snapped as he walked away, revealing another dark figure sitting in a chair directly across from me. On either side of him stood two men each holding guns. All three of them wore bandanas covering the majority of their faces and hiding their identities.

I took a moment to take in my surroundings. Cold concrete floor, crumbling dark walls and a single lightbulb hanging from the ceiling, flicking on and off and barely lighting up the room.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" The ominous man snickered, clasping his hands together in front of him.

That voice. I know that voice. But from where?

"Who are you and what do you want?"
