"Monika!"
Monika turned to see who called her, and waved when she saw her friend, Janina.
"Hey. How are you doing? I've been bored these few days without you. Come sit," she said.
Janina patted the seat next to her and Monika accepted the invitation. She had been sick the past few days...not physically, but mentally. Many events in her home life and "mental head" life jumbled with her systems. She didn't want to complain, though, so she wrote it off as a cold to her friends.
Thus began the mundane conversation at the lunch table and Monika's teasing responses. She enjoyed her school life, but not much happened. The routine was the same each day. School, home, game, sleep...school, home, game, sleep...if something interesting happened, it was usually negative.
The highlight of her day was a kids' game that she used to relieve stress. ROBLOX Arsenal...the deathmatch shooting game that thousands of people played a day. Lately, she'd been getting 1st place consistently and easily because of her habit to play every day. Even Arsenal began to get boring at that point.
Lunch ended about twenty minutes later, which meant it was time for science. Monika waved goodbye to her friends and mindlessly walked to class. She suddenly remembered a quote from a movie she couldn't quite remember..."Day in, day out, day after day after day, it's the same damn thing." That definitely described her life right now. What would happen and when? What would end the cycle? She wasn't sure.
Thoughts like that invaded Monika's mind for the rest of the day until she heard the chiming bell that indicated the end of school. As always, she said her goodbyes to her friends and began her walk home. On the way, she passed the grocery, three restaurants, two gas stations, and a couple of major intersections. This was her exercise for the day, but also how she cleared her head. It was easily the most interesting part of Monika's day, but not the highlight. Her highlight was waiting at home.
A smile was plastered on her face as she unlocked the door and took off her shoes. She slid on the hardwood floor into her room. Monika closed the door, then plopped herself in front of the computer. Hopefully, she'd find a better opponent on Arsenal today. The competition was dwindling lately and few could beat her. She hated to sound arrogant, but it was a fact. Every single game she'd played for the past few weeks had been a clear win by at least 6 kills. Well, except for hackers. They didn't count, though, those only made Monika angrier. It was an insult to anyone who was actually good at the game.
It took a bit for Arsenal to load on Roblox.
She had 0 friends on her account, PepsiGamer10, because she only wanted to friend people she'd talk to. That'd usually be her school friends. But Monika didn't want them knowing that she played this game designed for kids under 13. It was embarrassing; she was made fun of playing even in middle school. And her parents wanted her to do her studies at home. Not that they checked if she was doing homework, they didn't care.
Her character, The Scientist deployed onto Agency, the map she was best at. She, of course, chose the red team. Monika was feeling good about the first match. She joined a little late, but most of the guns were either automatic or one shot, one kill. It wouldn't take long for her to be in first.
