Fingers of lightning scoured the night sky, closely followed by a roll of thunder above the North City. A huge, dominant, shadow-black wolf with a bloodred underbelly lumbered up the spiral stairs of the Alpha's building.
When the wolf reached the pinnacle of the tallest building, two guards pushed a little closer together, not recognizing the large wolf, even though he was easily distinguishable by his immense size. The guards even pushed as far as to growling, but quickly changed to whimpers of fear as the wolf raised his tail.
The guards scampered, yelling out how sorry they were to challenge their Beta. The wolf snorted, muttering, "Stupid guards." He advanced, nudging the door open with his snout. He smirked when he caught a glimpse of Alpha Fire standing on the balcony, overlooking the beautiful city he ruled with obvious pride.
That pride will soon be a memory, scattered in the wind. They will plead for their Alpha Fire soon enough, the wolf thought, smiling evilly. He silently padded over to the opening in the wall that led to the balcony the fire-colored Alpha was on, his dragon-like paws not even making a clicking sound over the tile floor.
He got right behind the Alpha, smiled, and said, "Alpha Fire."
The firey wolf whipped around, teeth bared and growling lowly, but relaxed when he realized who it was. "Alexian," he started, "you wish to speak with me? Good timing, I wanted to conversate with you as well."
Alexian held back a scowl at how the old Alpha talked. Always using big words and Old Wolf-style speaking, from back when the North City was just recently inhabited by the wolves 100 years ago. He streched a fake smile across his face.
"Yes, I did. I want to ask you something..." Alexian started. Alpha Fire sat down. "Okay, ask away."
"I am...the next Alpha, correct?" Alpha Fire's eyes grew dark, and he shifted uncomfortably, and he tensed a little. "Well, yes..."
"Good."
Alexian was on Alpha Fire in an instant, paw on his neck. The old Alpha threw Alexian off, and he crashed into the floor inside the room. He jumped up instantly, and accelreated straight into a gallop at Fire. He slashed, but Alpha Fire countered and swiped his claws across Alexian's eye while it was open.
The black wolf yowled in pain, and Alpha Fire used this distraction to leap onto Alexian, pinning him down. The Beta struggled, but Fire's grip was too strong. Alexian's left side of his face was completely covered in blood.
"Alexian...I raised you, like a father, when you were abandoned," the old wolf's eyes began to tear up. "I was wrong to make you Beta. Your ambitions were obviously dangerous, but I believed you could use them for good..." He shook his head.
"Well, father," he mocked, smiling evilly. "You forgot one thing I had."
He raised his tail to his foster father's throat. Cold metal dug into Fire's fur. Because Alexian didn't have a regular tail...
On the end of his tail was a scythe. It had recently become very bloodstained, Fire noticed, eyes wide, as he backed off of Alexian. The larger, black wolf smirked.
Fire started backing away, Alexian's conveniently long tail's scythe still at the firey wolf's throat. "You're far too nice on these pests," Alexian spat. "All of these so-called 'equals' are nothing but your slaves. They were born to rule under a king. One with a heart of steel, using what he has to make his life better, which means using his 'citizens' as slaves. A true alpha."
Fire's eyes grew even wider at his adopted son's words. "What did I ever do wrong?" he asked, his ears as far down as they would go. He bumped into the railing.
Alexian snarled. "You never die! No matter how sick, how many battles, how gravely injured you become, younever DIE!" Alexian was face to face with Alpha Fire.
"Alpha Fire, you are exempt from your duty. Forever."
Alexian slit the Alpha's throat, and blood spewed out, decorating Alexian's blade. Fire collapsed. The life in his eyes left soon enough. Alexian prepared stage two of his act:
Heartbrokeness.
"Guards! GUARDS!" Alexian called as loud as he could, fake tears streaming from his eyes. The rain started to pound down on Alexian. It actually stung his pelt some. It would wash away all evidence of the murder.
Four guards burst into the door, the leader shouting orders to the other three. Alexian, still fake crying, pelt now soaking wet, ran up to the lead guard. "I came outside to conversate with my father," he said, "and he was...he was..." he sobbed histarically. The guards rushed past him. He smiled in the shadows.
He turned around slowly, keeping his act up, and headed up even further to the roof. His foster father had shown him a place where a wolf could project his or her howl clearly, no matter how loud it was outside. He climbed to the specific lace that was only used for howling emergincies, such as a suprise attack, or a death.
The thunder and lightning had picked up significantly, and the rain came down in thick sheets, pounding the black wolf's flanks. He quickly ran through the Death of a King howl in his head, and made sure no wolf could hear the sense of victory in his voice, only sadness. He threw his head up to the sky, and parted his mouth slightly.
Alpha Alexian howled for the Death of a King, keeping the hint of victory from seeping into his eerily beautiful howl, as the world was plunged into darkness, lightning dancing around the murderer.
