We sat watching the men load body bags into the their van and I could not stop myself from thinking that Tyler and Tyde were in them. My knees were shaking and I was more nervous than i have ever been. I hope that we find them... I don't know how much longer I can live in this state of complete melancholy. I need to feel ok, I need to feel alive.I heard the faint sound of sirens behind us. The men looked at each other and frantically finished shoving the bags into the back. They slammed the doors and Rushed to their designated sides. Sirens growing louder the van sped of down the seemingly endless stretch of the dirt road. I swallowed hard as cop cars followed it, some pulled over to interrogate Karen and I. We explained what was going on before they asked us a few questions on if we saw where they came from before they left. The officers said that they were going to search the woods to see if they could find the inmates including Tyler, Tyde and the rest of the accumulated people. the gave us bullet-proof vests and led us into the thick forest. This was hopefully the day we would find them. I took a deep breathe and caught up with the rest of the group.
Hours later and we are still searching, the sun is setting and a cold wind started to replace the heat that the day had to offer. Flashlights had become our best friends now as our search continued. Shivering i followed the group closely, making sure to be cautious with every step.
I was not even sure how long we have been searching now... the sky was black and the moon shined bright . My feet were sore, my back aching, my eyes feeling heavy but i wasnt going to stop until i found them. A bright light was approaching from infront of us so we all hid in the tall grass and bushes, Perhaps that was hs father. we followed the pick up truck making sure that we were not in sight. Eventually a large worn-down cabin was infront of us. The officers got their guns ready and proceded forward. Shrieks filled the air, hurrying to the cabin they broke down the door. His father kneeled above Jackie relentlessly stabbing her. He turned his head slowly and stared at all of us with a grin, he turned and chuckled when he saw me,
"Nice to see you again Troye. Finally decided to show up I see?"
He then pulled a gun out of his oversized army jacket.
"Make any moves and you are all dead."
He stood up dropping Jackie on the stained white carpeting. My breathing nearly stopped as he took heavy steps towards me.He held the gun to my head as he guided me to the living room. I shook with fear taking in that this could very well be my last hour.
"See that son?" He pointed his free hand at a large family portrait hanging above a neglected fireplace.
"Don't call me son..."
He growled quiet words at me, "remember which one of us has the gun."
He continued with what he was saying before about the portrait. How I tore their family apart by becoming friends with tyler, which frankly I didn't understand but I didn't dare say a word. To wrap the whole thing up he said it was my fault that Tyler did not want to have anything to do with his father in that way, it was my fault that Tyler moved away to California, it was my fault for everything Tyler could have possibly done. I was wrong before, He did not want revenge on Tyler... He wanted revenge on me."And here we are. You were being your stupid little Australian self and had to intrude on my little game I have going on here. You fell into my trap and I'm surprised you didn't come earlier. I guess you can have your little reunion with your brother before you die, I mean it's only fair. But you will not see Tyler under any circumstances, not that he would want to see you. You ruined his life after all."
"I hope you know I won't be the one dying tonight." I turned around and hit the gun out of his hands pulling out my own. The officers on my team pounced on Tyler's father as the rest of us tried to find the victims. They flooded the hallway filled with doors making sure to check everywhere. I helped dig through the rooms, they could be anywhere.
"I think I found something!" Derek, one of the lead detectives, shouted. I practically ran into the room he was in and he had the doors to an armoire open wide a detachable piece of plywood jammed in where shelving should be. I removed the wood and shined my light down. Stairs leading down to a poorly kept basement. An elderly women made her way over to the bottom of the stairs and stared at us.
"We are here to help you... is there anyone else down there?"
She nodded and pointed where I couldn't see.I crawled into the hidden room, I followed her over to a large group of people ranging from 15-80+ .
They stared at me, some glaring, some relieved, and others looked completely worn out.
"Troye?" Tyde looked up at me,he got up slowly and limped over to me. I looked at him for a minute before hugging him tightly. I mumbled comforting words into his ear. I found them. I pulled away after about a minute and looked at the rest of them.
"Let's get out of here before they come back." I called for my group to help them to safety considering they are weak and beaten. I stopped Tyler and hugged him,he pushed me away and continued up the stairs. I tried not to show the pain that caused and helped Tyde up the stairs.*******************************
