''How do you feel now doctor?'', asked Dr. Ling in a mild tone.
''I thought that you have seen more blood than this doctor.'', said a smart looking woman, who was in her forties. She wore black square glasses and her breath was filled with the smell of instant coffee.
Freeman replied with a blunt face, ''Blood, but not violence.''
There was another person in the room, a man with uncombed blonde hair and brown eyes. He looked younger than the woman. Freeman assumed him to be the junior of the two.
Dr. Ling introduced the lady as DI Lisa Campbell and the other as Junior Detective Ryan Brooks.
From the moment Freeman saw the DI, he started to hate her. It was not her words, but just the look on her face. She had clearly annoyed him.
Without wasting anymore time, Lisa said, ''Doctor you know why we are here. So if you are okay with it, I shall ask you a few questions.''
She didn't wait for a yes.
''So for how many years did Miss Spears work for you?''
''Around seven years.'', replied Freeman.
Did she recently have an argument with someone or with you?'', asked Lisa.
''No, not that I know.'', said Freeman.
The next question was asked with a sharp look on Lisa's face.
''Her brother had told me that you hadn't paid her salary for quite some time. Is it true doctor?''
With a sorrowful sigh Freeman replied, ''Yes. I am kinda running short of patients for the last two months. So I couldn't give her the last month's salary. But she was completely fine with with it. She had understood my situation.''
Lisa gave a wicked look at Freeman. She said, ''Doctor, why would you think someone would kill a sweet young woman who doesn't have many relations nor any police records? We have very little data now, but with whatever we have, all fingers are pointed at you. Better keep a lawyer ready.''
Lisa smirked but no one else did. Instead the joke stung Freeman at his heart.
He wanted to say about the notes and the gun, but no not to Lisa. He didn't trust him. He wanted to have a talk with Inspector Jennings.
DI Campbell got up and walked out. She was followed by the junior detective.
After a moment or so, Dr. Ling said with her usual humble smile, ''Doctor you might be tired. You can get back to your apartment. One of our officers will be dropping you.''
Freeman got up, but turned back and asked,''Can I talk to Inspector Jennings now?''
Dr. Ling replied, ''No he is done for the day. You may speak to him tomorrow. Oh! And also we will be updating you about the DNA tomorrow.''
''All right'' said Freeman, and got out. Outside he found Officer Travis Johnson and Junior Officer Martin Fine talking to each other. The conversation was left as it is when they saw Freeman arriving. They both shook hands with Freeman. Johnson said, ''Hope you are fine now. Well I have given the directons to your house to Martin, he will take you back.''
With a quick nod Freeman got into a PD car with Junior Officer Fine and drove off.
They didn't speak much, except for Fine asking Freeman about the directions.
Freeman could finally have a good meal and a good night's rest. He was exhausted. It had been a long and tiring day filled with a rollercoaster of emotions.
But he knew it very well that the next few days were going to be longer, more draining and more horrifying.
