Elizabeth sighed as she rested her elbows on the table in front of her, looking out the window of the moving train. The sight only bore the passing of trees and the occasional bushes. While there wasn't anything outstanding about it, to Elizabeth, it reminded her of her hometown in the countries - nostalgic and warm.
She turned her head away from the scenery, glancing at the large clock hanging above a few feet away from her.
It read 4:30 A.M.
She looked away, trying to keep herself from checking it for what appeared to be the thousandth time.
5 minutes passed.
She checked the clock again.
4:35 A.M.
How long has it been since she was stuck on this train?
The answer was too long.
Returning from a three-month long trip abroad from Paris, Elizabeth now found herself on a train bounded for Totsuki Academy. She let out a slightly irritated sigh, her fingers thrumming aimlessly on the table. While normally patient, her excitement had rendered that to the opposite.
The operator said that even without making any unneeded stops, the fastest this train would arrive at the designated station would be sometime in the late morning. 9:30, I believe?
Her phone suddenly buzzed, cutting through her thoughts. Curious, she shifted her attention to it and was surprised to see two unread messages on the lock screen. She must've missed one of them. When she opened the first, she smiled at the sight of the name of the messenger.
It was Megumi, her younger sister.
Megumi: Eli-nee! I heard the news that you're returning to Totsuki today. I'm so excited!
Elizabeth: You're so sweet! My train should be arriving at the station this morning at about 9:30. I can't wait to see you again!"
She exited out of the chat, tapping on the other unread message. She let out an amused giggle as she read it.
Rindo: Elizabeth!!! Is it true that you're coming back today? Why didn't you tell me?! I thought we were friends!"
Elizabeth: Sorry, sorry, Rindo-chan! I wanted to keep it a surprise but word got out quick, didn't it?"
She relaxed in her seat as she turned her phone off after she sent the message. Seconds after she did so, however, her phone buzzed again.
Well that was fast. Megumi most likely isn't up right now so that can only mean that it's probably Rindo-chan.
She opened her phone back up again and sure enough, it was the redhead in question.
She slightly frowned. It was so early in the morning and Rindo was definitely not a morning person. If anything, her wild upperclassman would use any excuse possible to sleep in.
Regardless, she was still happy to have a little company. She had been bored all night, not being able to sleep as her excitement at returning to Totsuki had kept her from getting some rest.
The staff members working aboard the train had checked in with her every now and then to make sure she had everything she needed, whether that be from food and drinks to downright blankets and pillows for her own comfort.
She appreciated their efforts, but it seemed a little excessive nonetheless. The way how they pampered her was something she had never experienced before as she had spent most of her life living in the humbleness of the countries.
Such was the life of an Elite Ten member, though, as they enjoyed privileges meant only for them. While she initially tried to refuse, protesting that she would be fine traveling via the standard transportation services, Eizan, her fellow Council member, insisted that she instead use the luxury train privately owned by the Academy to travel and that he had already scheduled the trip, refusing her, well, refusal.
She shook those thoughts off quickly though as she opened the message, her eyes scanning through its contents.
Rindo: Well heck yeah! The entire school is practically buzzing about it! After all, the third seat is coming back!
Elizabeth: Eh?! Is it really that big of a deal?
Rindo: Well duh! Anyways, as punishment for keeping your best friend in the dark about this, you so owe me a batch of your famous chocolate chip cookies!
Elizabeth: Ahaha ✩ Ohhhh, Rindo-chan. That's what you were after this entire time, wasn't it?
Rindo: Maybe you know me a bit too well!~
Elizabeth: We've been best friends and roommates for a while now. I think I'd at least know what you're thinking!
Rindo: Well perhaps you do! Annnnnd I know that you'll happily make them for me ;))
Elizabeth: Well of course! I know how much you love them! ✩
Rindo: Love is a biiiit of an understatement~
Rindo: Anyways, there's someone who've I've been wanting you to meet for a while now.
Elizabeth: ???
Rindo: Don't sweat the details, kay? It's a surprise!!
Rindo: I don't think you'll be too disappointed.
Elizabeth: Alright fine ✩ I'll take your word for it.
Elizabeth: Anyways, it's still pretty early and I'm a bit tired from traveling. I'm going to get some sleep before arriving at the station.
Elizabeth: You should also sleep too. I know how much you hate being sleep deprived.
Rindo: Yeah, you betcha! Bye!
After closing out of the messenger, she turned off her phone, leaning into her seat. She had an inkling feeling that today was going to be an eventful day and she needed all the energy she could get.
