I've never liked sleeping in the dark. Something about it always creeped me out. I was afraid that something would pop out at me, or something I couldn't see could clearly see me. I always slept with the light on, or at least the T.V. on. This fear started when I was really young, maybe 6 or 7, and it never went away. At first, my parents thought it was a simple kid thing, they thought it was just a phase. I can't blame them, a lot of kids are scared of the dark, but they usually get over it. Anyway, it continued into my adult life, I still sleep with the light and T.V. on. Now I know you probably think I'm crazy, but recently, I have been given proof. I was right to be afraid of the dark. You see, a couple days ago, I was lying in bed, ready to fall asleep. I had some random show on, whatever I could find on cable, and my lights on. While lying down, the worst possible thing happened. A blackout. It seemed the whole block lost power. There I was left in my pitch black room. I reached for my phone to turn on it's flashlight, but, it was dead, not surprised with the luck I have. So I lied in my bed, staring into the black. I felt, uneasy, I felt like I was being watched. I looked around my room, but I didn't see anything. Of course, it was so dark I could of easily missed it. Then I turned my attention to my window. My heart skipped a beat. I could see from out my window, what looked like two glowing white eyes staring at me. I started to breath heavily, I was terrified. What was it that I was looking at. I couldn't really make out what it was, it was too far away. All that popped out were it's eyes, I knew they were staring at me. Did that, thing, cause the blackout. And why me? Why was it staring at me? Why not torment one of my neighbors? Either way, I couldn't seem to move. Not that I really wanted to, I was too afraid to look away, cause I was scared it would disappear. So I just lied there, staring back at the creature. While lying there I heard a loud noise, something had fallen in my room. I heard it shatter, I turned my head to see that my glass vase had fallen, knocked over by my cat. I was too scared to be mad, and was glad it was just my cat and nothing else, I turned my head back to the window and screamed. The creature that was staring at me was right outside my window. I could see it better now. It was definitely humanoid, looked like one of those shadow people you hear about. It's arms were freakishly long and I couldn't really see it's legs, if it had any. But even worse were those eyes. They were still glowing white, but they were huge. Far to large for the creatures head. The creature just stayed there, right outside my window, staring at me. After I stopped screaming, I heard it breathing. It's breathing was very choppy. I wanted to keep screaming, but I just didn't have the energy to continue. I thought to myself that this was it. That there was no way this thing wasn't going to kill me. Then it moved it's long arm towards the bottom of the window. It looked like it was trying to open it. My breathing got even heavier, my heart was pounding, and then, the lights turned back on. And in the blink of an eye, the creature just vanished. I didn't sleep that night. Since then I've boarded up my bedroom window, though there hasn't been another blackout, I still wouldn't want to take the risk. I'm telling you this so you know I'm not just afraid of nothing. So next time you're lying alone in the dark, go to you're nearest window, and just stare out it. I wouldn't be too surprised if you see something staring back.
