I dropped her off at her house, and walked home ,my thoughts filled with her face. Who was she? I hadn't seen her around before, and I knew my town well.
There was word of some people moving in, and starting a cafe, but I hadn't been to it yet.
I glanced at the sky, which was already beginning to darken, and reasoned that it might already be closed, and that it would have to wait till tomorrow.
The next day, I woke up earlier than usual. I got dressed quickly, ready to see Cakey again soon. Perhaps I was obsessing over her a little, but I didn't care. As I pulled my shoes on, I realised I don't know where the new cafe might be. I decided to go to her house instead, since it was still pretty early, and walk with her.
I got to her house and saw a silhouette walking around. I didn't see any visible doorbell, so I knocked. Jeez I hope I wasn't bothering her. "Just a minute" I heard, muffled from inside the house.
She burst open the door suddenly, almost causing me to topple over.
"Hi [yn]!"
"Heya Cakey! Sorry for bothering you this early, I just wanted to check in you"
"It's fine" she smiled " I already have another friend over, come on in!"
"Oh okay"
I managed to hide the dejection in my voice. I was, rather selfishly, hoping to be alone with her. As I followed her to the kitchen. Her "friend" was dude with blonde hair and a strong frame. Of course she had a boyfriend.
"Who's this?" He said rudely.
Cakey seemed to shrink
" I-it's my friend, [yn]"
"Surely Cakey has told you about me"
He laughed obnoxiously, the picture of an annoying white boy. He paused when I had no reaction.
"Oh, she hasn't?" He glared at her for a second, before smiling again. "Well, I'm Darren, Darren James. It's an absolute pleasure to meet you"
I tried not to gag.
Cakey was still looking down at her shoes.
I glared at him as he had at Cakey, while still smiling.
"The pleasure is all mine"
I said through gritted teeth.Cakey looked like she was about to cry. I moved in between her and Darren.
"Oh come on, let's not fight"
He said.
"We're all friends here"
I took hold of Cakey's hand and then let go quickly.
Who cares if she dated some annoying controlling white boy."Come on Cakey, we've still got lots do bake"
I did.
I helped Cakey and Darren (ugh) to bake a few things, before managing to get Cakey alone while we were getting some cupcakes out of the oven.
"Sooo"
I said, uber casually, as she kneeled down to take another tray out.
"Darren's your boyfriend huh?
She blushed.
"No he's just my business partner"
"Sure doesn't seem that way"
"It's... complicated"
"So, I still have a chance with you?"
Great. Now she's going to hate me."He won't like it, but yeah, you do"
She said, looking up at me."It's me who doesn't have a chance with you really" she laughed, and with that note, left the room with the tray of cakes in her arms.
(Hehe Darrens full name is "Darren Ckevin James, aka the most annoying white boy name ever. Thanks for helping me name him @ the ppl who did, idk how to credit them)
