We recovered the Sarcophigi from a Asteroid orbiting the Centari sun. It was buried deep and was only discovered after something was still their after an anti-matter reactor failed. The light and explosion had destroyed half of the belt, but something remained floating. It was 12 meters high and 3 and a half wide and it was roughly human shaped. When the team that picked it up brought it back, word had already spread through the recovery crews of the strange rock. They called it the Sarcophigi and when we showed up in our Xyth, we began calling it that too. The recovery team had been chipping away at the stone steadily and had reveled the thick, impossible metal beneath it. Three Local-days after our arrival everyone who was on the recovery ship had died. Our analysis of the bodies concluded an eerie fourth-dimensional radiation, and we had the Sarcophigi quarantined. Over the next few days everyone who had come in contact with the Sarcophigi died or became very ill. We helped the ones we could, but we couldn't save them all.
When the gear was prepared, me and two other executioners entered the area where the Sarcophigi was held. Every preparation that could have been made was made and so using our L-Tools, the magic wand from the future, we could scan it. We learned that the metal the Sarcophigi was made out of was a Intra-dimensionally layered alloy that could absorb energy and release it sideways to our own dimension. The three of us concluded that the Sarcophigi was not actively trying to kill anyone, it was just releasing energy from the explosion. The L-Tool told us that the energy would possibly dissipate in the next 200 local-years, and since I had barely turned 90 I was assigned to watched over the Sarcophigi, until it would open. I would go on other missions, but I would contain it and make sure no one else would find it, including the executioners. It was my mission, and my destiny.
Which is why, now at the end of my natural life, I write this account to you. I retired from the executioners years ago, I was one of the older executioners who went along with Emerit when he relayed his story. My duty was not done, and that's what I am facing now. The Sarcophigi is held within the Dimensional Estrangement field which is beyond comprehension even for our scientists and was sent to me by the Time Travelers themselves. Soon it will open, and soon I will have to face the Beyonder inside. With the Field I can create a miniature pocket dimension and thrust everything inside the field into it, this is the threat I will hold over the Beyonder. Anything encased in a sarcophigi like that is far to powerful for executioners of our days to kill, so I will throw it away, out of this universe.
Yet, I will also follow Emrit's example, I won't judge before I look into it's eyes and see that it would kill me without second thought. I will try and rehabilitate it, I will try and humanize it. I know you will hate me, that's why I am telling no one about this. I betrayed the Executioners, I betrayed the only people that would take me in after my disgrace, but what if it works. Imagine if I could make him human again, make him feel, make him forget. I know i have a less than a zeroth percent of making it work, but part of me feels like I have to try, for humanity. On some level him and I are the same person, we both access incredible technology to fulfill our agenda, mine his noble, his is not. If I am dead, use this for proof against Emerit, if I am not, let me die in peace. This is the way I wish to do this, and I want nothing more than for it to work.
I will now send you the transcription file and all of our conversations. This will be the last time I will talk, for I will let the transcriptions talk for themselves. I have no idea where this will go, and I have no idea if it will work, but someone has to try. Thank you for listening to this old man ramble, and without any more of my stamerings let's begin.
