"This cannot be happening." Skylar stares at the clock on her nightstand in disbelief.
She is late for her first day at Sterling High.
"Freaking fantastic." She mutters under her breathe, throwing the covers off of her. After taking a quick shower and changing into the first clothes she got her hands on, she walked straight for James' room. She pounded her fist on the door until he opened it to reveal her disheveled older brother. His hair stuck out in all directions and he had bags under his eyes. "What?" He snapped at Skylar, pushing past her to the kitchen.
"Thanks for waking me up! Now I'm going to be late for my first day at school. As if my day wasn't already going to be crappy enough." He shrugs, pouring milk into the cereal bowl.
"Sorry," he glanced at her, "I didn't set my alarm." She sighed, walking out the front door. He always did this. He always shut her out when they were going through things instead of holding her close. They were all each other had and now it's as if she lost him to. Skylar frowned, putting the hood of her NYC sweatshirt up. She remember what her mom used to say to her: being late on your first day of school is a bad omen for what was to come. And boy, her mom had never been more right.
***SKYLARS POV***
This is possibly the most boring class I have ever stepped foot in. I lifted my head off the desk as the door of the classroom slammed shut. "Mr.Bieber," The teacher said sternly, ripping a detention slip and handing it to him without a second glance. Wow, was that a hunk of a boy. I bit my bottom lip as my eyes traveled over his tatted arms. His hair was messy, but it looked good on him, I decided, tearing my gaze away. His hand shoved the detention slip in his pocket as he trudged over to my desk. His emotionless eyes were trained on me as he made his way to stand in front of my desk. My heart thumped rapidly as I stared back into the honey-brown color of his eyes.
"Your in my seat." He mumbled, licking his lips. Oh the seats are assigned?
"Uh... there is an empty seat over there." I said quietly, pointing with my pencil to the nearest desk and focusing back on the sheet in front of me. He laughed humorlessly, pushing my books off my desk.
"Sweatheart I'm not going to ask you again. Move." Annnnnnd there it is. All the hot guys: jerks. Glad I could check this one off my list. I simply leaned over and put the books back on my desk without looking at him, opening up to the page I was on.
"Justin, have a seat." The teacher scolded him as Justin narrowed his cold eyes at me.
"Bye" I said quietly, waving at him, before pointing to the empty seat yet again. He licked his lips, smirking before sauntering off to the other desk, his eyes still locked in a gaze with me.
I broke eye contact after a good minute, trying earnestly to pay attention to the lesson at hand but I couldn't. Not when the person seated behind me leaned forward and whispered,
"Your gonna regret that."
