This is a Ruggie x Female Reader story <3

Oh, the slums... The place where all the poor and lowly are bound to dwell. Those who ache with poverty, bruised to the bone and hungry, forced to a youth of pick-pocketing and an age of wandering.

All is not so bad, though. People learn to get by. Close friendships are built, and ties between families are so strong that nothing could ever break the bond.

And, today is so sunny and bright with hardly a cloud in sight! Nearly everyone wears a smile on their face—all young and old alike.

There is Ruggie chasing the small children of the town, pulling at their shirts as they all run around. Those innocent youths always seem to love him so, very much. He plays with them roughly and regularly teaches them his tricks and schemes to getting whatever it is they might please. There they go now! They rush up and down the streets, moving all about.

And then, there is you.

You, the dancer that everyone loves to see. You, with your flowing dresses and small tambourine. Born and raised in the slums, you and your family just barely got by. You taught yourself to dance at a young age, the natural talent bursting through you with every turn and leap and step of your feet. You became quite good, and for years, you have been dancing—both to earn money at the village's caverns and to entertain all the people you grew up with in the slums' streets.

And, right now, there you go, skipping into the town with your feet so light and graceful. Many people see and recognize you, and some rush to you in delight, wearing charming smiles across their faces. Among them is Ruggie, your familiar friend and occasional lover, who comes forward to you with some of the children still chasing his tail. He takes your hand in his and pulls you to him, his mouth open to say something just before the other people gather in, unknowingly interrupting him.

"Will you dance for us?" several of the people ask. They all seem to plead with their glowing eyes and broad smiles. How can you possibly refuse them? You came here dressed to dance, after all.

You nod your head and smile with pleasure, "Yes! Of course, I will dance. Will someone play some music?" You slip your hand out of Ruggie's and turn away from him, no time to give him your regard. He understands though, doesn't he? A performance is expected, and this is something that you simply must do--that you want to do! "Someone hold my necklace for me, please?"

A friend of yours pushes her way towards you, showing you a warm smile as she tugs at her skirt. You return her smile and remove the long necklace full of colorful beads from your neck. You place it over her head and push her hair back while she whispers to you a few encouraging words.

You now rush onto the center of the street, everyone parting to make room for your show. Three men come to stand behind you; one with a flute, one with a fiddle, and the other with a drum.

The small audience gathers to watch you, and there is Ruggie, again, at the very front, standing a good distance away from the rest of the crowd to get a perfect view of you.

Your eyes lock with his for several seconds. You see him gazing at you with admiration for your beauty and excitement for your performance, wide-eyed with reverence, and awestruck by your delicate and wondrous lure. He brings his hand up slowly to his face, touching his fingertips to his cheeks and lips as he stares into your eyes. Something rushes within you. What is it? Adrenaline? That fluttery feeling of excitement... Is it something more?

The flute starts to play, and you are pulled away. From the tune, you are carried elsewhere, away from Ruggie's enchanting stare. The drum joins in with the flute and the fiddle, maintaining a steady beat to the melody that sounds so, so sweet. You dance easily to the music, the steps coming to you naturally as you keep to the pace. You move your arms and sway your hips with elegance and grace. The skirts of your gown flow out and around, twirling past your legs and then coming down. You smile with glee, charming with every motion of your body. A couple people clap, a couple people cheer, and a couple little girls begin to dance along.

The music now slows down, and so do you, moving so perfectly with the rhythm behind you. You place a kiss on your palm and then stretch your arm in Ruggie's direction. He makes a small move as if he's going to reach for it but stops abruptly, looking at you so lovingly. Your heart leaps from his gesture, just as you leap away and spin to the music that's now picking up speed.

You twist and whirl as the song comes to a happy and energetic end. At your final pose, everyone enlivens, and some even throw you a rose.

"Wonderful job!"

"A beautiful dancer!"

"She fills us with joy!"

All that cheering, all that praise! Everyone, everywhere shouts your name! You smile broadly, and you curtsy in gratitude to all the people's applause.

You rush over to your friend where she stands clapping fervently for your performance. She lifts that necklace of colorful beads off her head and returns to yours. You thank her, but before you can say much more, your hand is grabbed by somebody else who tugs you elsewhere into another direction.

You turn to see that the person in possession of your direction is you dearest friend Ruggie. He pulls you along, smiling at you quickly before turning his face away. You willingly follow him as he weaves through the small crowd, guiding you towards emptier streets.

Your hands still entwined, he runs with you down the dirty streets, past the buildings and past the people still cheering for your attention. The two of you run and run. The wind breezes past and cools your skin, but you run so fast that you grow out of breath.

Quickly, Ruggie seizes your shoulders and pushes you against one of the building's walls, hidden from any onlookers who may be straying along. You gasp from the force and the speed of his movement, but you smile nonetheless, so happy to be so near him in your deep exhilaration.

"You were wonderful...!" He exclaims as he gasps for breath. His cheeks are warm with a soft pink blush, and he gazes upon your lips, your cheeks, your neck, your chest as his eyes glitter. He then draws them back up to stare into your own, and the sun shines inside them with a golden flicker. He looks so handsome and so radiant in this light... doesn't he? You certainly think so.

"Thank you, Ruggie...! Thank you so much!" The warm feelings inside you that bloomed from the rush and excitement of the dance now spill out in affectionate thoughts for the young man standing before you. You smile widely, then wider, and wider. Ruggie notices how your eyes twinkle brighter, and he moves his hand up to caress your face.

Your breath catches in your throat. You try to say something, but no sound comes out. His touch his light, and feathery, and delicate with each stroke he brushes along your cheek and neck. The faint touch sends blissful shivers down your back, and you close your eyes, delighting in the feeling.

His fingers move down to the edge of your jaw, sliding against your soft skin until he lightly grasps your chin. He brings your face up to his, and he leans into your lips, planting a warm and delicate kiss.

There it is. That feeling again--the one that comes rushing through to quicken the beat of your heart and thrust your mind into a dizzy daze. Feeling so impassioned, you bring your arms up to wrap around his neck. Closer and closer... You wish to never leave this moment. Isn't that true? Never, ever leave this moment... Never, ever leave his side.
