Chapter 1

The night sky is beautiful, but all the beautiful things come with darkness filled in them. The moon which shines so gorgeously has its pair of scars, but all the poets are after her beauty. Love, power, regrets all come at peak under the same gorgeous moon. Some love her some hate, but most importantly, they acknowledge her presence and consider her the source of eternal beauty. Her scars, her dark side is ignored, and she stays in everyone's heart. Covered in a blanket of the dark sky, she shines and keeps on shining forever. I came out of my thoughts as the cloud thunder above. I looked away from the window and picked up my black mug full of hot chocolate and drank it. I have been sitting on my balcony and looking outside. It's going to rain heavily today I thought as the clouds roar again. I drew my sheets close to me and looked outside at the pouring rain. It falls and vanishes the thirst just like lovers kissing under the cherry blossom tree and confess their affection. I love how it embraces every pain, gives happiness without thinking about profit or gain. I love how we disguise our tears under the rain when the kiss of love becomes poison running in the veins. We start to lose our sanity as the person leaves. To some, it's just water droplets, to some joyful memories but to me, it has always brought me miseries wrapped in rainbow hue. The sinister song it plays while falling on the ground, how it eases the burning skin yet flares it up more. I kept listening to the song they played and started to feel dizzy. I let the darkness embrace me as I fall into a slumber sleep. I am falling into nowhere. The air swirls around me as I am getting engulfed by dark. I try to catch something, but all I get hold of is nothing. I hear his voice whispering in my ears 'I will be back'. My eyes snap open, taking me out of my nightmare. The sun shines brightly and blinding me in the process. This dream follows me like a shadow no matter how hard I try, but I can't get rid of it. After all, it's hard to get yourself free from the past when you keep holding on the invisible thread. I looked at the phone, it read 9:00 am. Holy fish I am late, I try to run but fall from the chair and give the floor a free hug. Why am I so clumsy? I hurried myself up groaning and ran inside closing the balcony. I freshen up quickly; I wear my white T-shirt, black jeans, sports shoes and tie my hair in a ponytail. I take my apartment keys, phone and go out. I start to lock the door. I look at the phone, and I see 10 missed calls from Daniel. He is the proprietor of the cafe. He is very kind, sweet and caring. He has got hazel orbs, white hair and is handsome looking. He is 56 and looks so young. He is like a father figure to me. I freaked out and immediately called back the phone rings.

"Hey Dan, how are you?"

"Don't hey me kid, mind telling me where you were. You got me worried, and you know worrying is not fit for my health".

"Calm down; I overslept no need to worry. You called me so many times, any particular reason?"

"Oh yes, I was asking if you were coming today. You see Erin has called in sick today and the cafe gets stuffed during office hours".

'Yes, sir, I am on my way. Will be there in half-hour".

"Good to hear, kid. Come safely. How many times do I need to tell you that don't call me sir".

"Roger that sir! See you at the cafe".

"Lilit-"

I hung up the call before he could scold me. Verifying that the door is closed, I start my run towards the cafe. It is a 45-minute walk, but I chose to run. This way I save money, for transportation and I stay fit. I start running on the sidewalk passing various types of people some who are in a hurry like me, enjoying the smell of the wet mud and every moment, some sad from their life. This town is small but big enough to be lost in the alleyways. I pass some enormous constructions; I greet aged people as I pass near the yards. The park is in the centre of the town and hangout place for everyone. I make several turns and finally see the building painted with smoke and peacock color with big glass windows. This cafe is my heaven; this is the place which has given me a family again, covering my tainted memories with bright ones. I am Lilith Knight, 20 years old and work as a waitress in the cafe, The friendly beans. This is the story of how light and darkness are a tale of the same coin and how they sing a song which makes us wonder why.
