When did we stop dreaming?

The night had the slightest breeze blowing what little clouds there were in the sky across the bright light of the moon. This created a moment of silence for the forest and its sleeping beauty. Once the cloud had passed he glimpsed her face. A face with eyes that were sparkling, not only from the night sky above but from the fire of dreams that lay in those depths. A fire the only she had in the calm of the silent night.

"What's your imagination up to this time?" He asked turning his head to face the girl who was still staring up at the sky in awe.
"Many things, the best of things right now, it's letting me imagine that the stars and the night sky are still as magical to me from when I first saw them." She replied, now smiling at the sky above.
"And what makes them less magical now?" He pondered, wanting the girl to go on a bout of explanations and theories.
"Knowing the science behind it, I guess. Unless it's just the thought that it leaves less room for wonder and questions for they have been answered." Her smile faded a tad as she thought of it, losing a bit of the shine in her eyes.

"Well, actually, knowing the science behind it makes it even more magical, and raises even more questions. We may know how we got our moon, but how in the world did a coincidence like that happen so perfectly on the planet we live on, giving us our seasons that are perfect for life and out beautiful moon to change the tide. It raises the question as to how we are so lucky as creatures to have this happen so we could be born." He stated, much more factually, although in an attempt to cheer up the girl.
"It makes me wonder."
"Wonder what?"

" When did we stop using imagination?" She said, asking the night sky and whoever  would listen.
"What do you mean?" He asked, startled by her sudden and seemingly out of the blue question. She sat up, putting her arms out behind her for support as she leaned back.
"People often point out that there are many limits to our imagination, but I think that it is actually the most valuable aspect of growing as a civilization or just as people. You see, technically, we can never imagine a new color, but when I think about it, that because we dont need it, we don't want it." She starts with grin.
"And how does want relate to ones imagination and dreams." He commented, getting ready.

"SINCE WE WERE A THING" She exclaims, jumping up from her spot in the grass and beginning to spin and walk around the clearing.
"What?" He asks with a chuckle.
"Let me explain, so as Neanderthals we needed to kill we needed to eat, eventually, we wanted something that could kill animals better, so, somebody went and imagined a tool to hit them in a more efficient way. That was purely out of the want to make somethings easier and so we used our imagination." She began to explain, pacing around and using the grandest of hand motions.

"Why do you say we stopped?"
"BECAUSE WERE AT A STANDSTILL IN PROGRESS!" She yelled with a spin.
"A stand still? How so?" He inquired, sitting up to gaze at this wondrous and eccentric girl with a small smile.
"There have been so many jumps in progress throughout our history, but that's because people wanted more out of life, people used their imagination to fill their needs and make it a reality. All of the great inventors who were ahead of their time, all of the scientists or curious souls looking for answers about the world, not about themselves. If we look at us now we have so many things that we are beginning to lose our natural want for more."
"Is that so bad?"

"Why of course it is! The natural and beautifully human thought of want and greed and curiosity is exactly what moves this world forward. It's a gift to fuel our dreams and imagination, why, if we were to stop using it completely, this world would be so boring and at even more of a standstill than it is!"
"So, you're saying that we have stopped wanting more from our world? However there are many greedy humans, however would you explain them?" He inquired, enjoying her fiery spirit.

"They are greedy for the themselves, hell, almost everyone from this generation is, they are stuck in the present and past, not to learn from it, but to dwell on it. Sometimes I feel as if no one was taught how to move forward, not in random ideas, not in life, and never in love. It's so sad to see almost a whole generation to scared to move forward out of fear and greed and selfishness."
"Well, we aren't all like that, look at you, you're always moving forward, always growing, and somehow never changing at heart, you're a light in this generation." He said gently with the most sincere smile he has had in a while.

"Pfft, me? I'm running as fast as I can to avoid all the chaos I leave behind, I never change at heart because I have always been a broken and indecisive mess inside, you cant fix that." She said with a giggle, going back to the subject.

"But anyways, if you think about this world, and our generation, we can be doing so much more. We need to move past all the sorrow move forward and look to the future, because I want to make it a beautiful one, full of our own dreams after making a reality out of our imagination." She declared with a final stare into the deep and almost starless sky.

"I'll follow you wherever you go, however far and different, the future you want sounds profound" he smiled, finally standing up and walking to her side.

He felt so happy to be able to look at this beautiful girl with the most amazing mind, yet she would never know.
