Notes from AO3
I wanted to give Ines some emotions other than >:3c and Sad(TM), but she ended up coming off as ooc, whoops.

Out of all the things Aya Drevis had expected when she woke up in the middle of the night to her father's scream and the living dead outside her door, befriending one of the reanimated corpses was certainly not one of them.
Yet here she was, clutching her companions cold and unnaturally pale hand as they strode through the halls of the mansion. Ines wasn't any bigger or stronger than she was, but Aya still found an odd comfort in her presence. Her oddly chipper attitude was a bit off-putting at first, considering the situation they were both in, but Aya had grown used to it.
She glanced down at the code memo in her hand. Ines couldn't read it, in fact Ines couldn't read at all, so it was up to Aya to figure it out. She didn't know much English, but she knew enough to able to understand the instructions, much to her relief.
She'd already gotten the first two digits. Seven barrels in the east hall, and four chandeliers at the entrance. 74. Two numbers left to go.
"Red dolls in the doll room." She recited, looking up from the paper and tugging her friend along with her as she walked. "The doll room is just around this corner, right here. Come on, we've gotta count the- Ines?"
She turned around to see that her companion had stopped dead in her tracks, eyeing the door with suspicion.
"I'm not going in there." She said, surprisingly firm.
"Why not?"
"I don't like dolls." Ines said, sounding almost...scared? "They give me a bad feeling."
"What's wrong with them? They're just dolls." Aya asked curiously. "They were all gifts from Father, and he wouldn't give me anything that could hurt me."
Ines flinched at the mention of Dr. Drevis, but still held her ground. "You go in there and count those dolls. I'll wait out here."
"But Ines-"
"I'm not going in the bloody doll room!" She snapped. Aya squeaked and stepped back, startled.
There was a long moment of silence.
"...I didn't mean to scare you." Ines sighed, her tense posture relaxing a bit. "Just go and do what you have to. I'll be right here."
Aya nodded silently, and let the door shut behind her as she entered the doll room.
