Author's Note: Merry Christmas everyone! So this is a shortish update and completely unedited, so I apologise in advance for grammatical errors. I just really wanted to upload this before Christmas, so here we are! Anyway, enjoy!
Lucy's POV
'Hey Lu, I was thinking, have you borrowed anything yet?' Asked Levy.
'Huh?' We were in the guildhall, where I was enjoying my strawberry milkshake whilst having a chat with Levy.
'You know, for the wedding!' She laughed at my confused expression.
'Oh! No, not yet.' I was a little hesitant to bring up the issue. My problem was that I had a fair few female friends in the guild, and I was concerned about who I should choose to borrow something from. I just didn't want to come across as having 'favourites'.
'Well you know, I have a lot of cute hairbands and stuff that you can borrow if you want' She replied cheerfully.
At that point Mira came over. 'What are you two talking about?' She asked sweetly, a smile on her face.
'Oh, I was just saying to Lucy that she could borrow something from me to wear on her wedding day!' Answered Levy. I sweated a little when I saw the gleam that came into Mira's eye.
'Well, I'm sure Lucy knows that I'll be happy to lend her something too if she likes.' Mira said, looking at me pointedly. It was at that point that Erza decided to join the conversation.
'Ah! I hear that you ladies are talking about Lucy's wedding! She will of course be borrowing something from my extensive wardrobe!' Erza loudly proclaimed.
I chose this time to try and sneak out of the guildhall, but I was stopped by an unsurprisingly drunk Cana.
'Hey Lucy, what's this crap I hear about you borrowing something to wear from these stupid girls?' Cana slurred, slinging a heavy arm around my shoulder. 'Obviously you'll be borrowing something from your maid of honour here, from a real woman!'
'Just because I don't allow anyone to besmirch my virtue doesn't mean I am not a real woman!' Shouted Erza, as she requipped into her Heaven's Wheel armour.
Cana laughed. 'I bet you'd love for Jellal to 'besmirch your virtue' wouldn't you?!' Erza turned into a blushing mess and began mumbling incoherently. Whilst both Erza and Cana were distracted I managed to successfully make a run for it. I escaped the guildhall and speedwalked back to my flat, keeping an eye out all the way home.
When I finally got into my apartment, I slumped against the door and heaved a sigh of relief. I was finally safe.
'Luce!'
I jumped out of my skin and reflexively reached for my whip, only to see that it was just Natsu. He was lying on the sofa, and the window behind him was wide open, with the curtains fluttering in the cold breeze.
'Natsu! What have I told you about breaking into my apartment! You have a key now, use it instead of climbing in through my window.' I made my way over to the sofa and leaned over Natsu to shut the window. When I'd closed it he grabbed my waist and pulled me down into his lap.
'You're stressed, I can tell. What's wrong?' He nuzzled my neck gently, his hot breath tickling my ear. Relaxing into his embrace I took hold of his hand, running my thumb over his knuckles.
'The girls at the guild were fighting over who gets to lend me something to wear at the wedding. It stressed me out because those guild brawls are intense enough already. Not to mention I felt under pressure to choose one of them.'
'Oh, this is that tradition thing you explained to me right? Well why were they fighting over it?'
'I think they just want to be a part of the whole thing, and they got competitive. You know how it is.' The group often fought over the tiniest of matters, it was normal for stuff like this to occur, albeit more stressful when you feel responsible.
'Well, there are other people you can borrow things from right? It doesn't have to be one of them does it?'
'No, I guess not...' I replied, unsure of where he was going with this.
'Well, couldn't you just borrow something of mine?'I sighed at his suggestion. 'Natsu, this is a wedding, not a fight we're talking about.'
'Hey! I know that. I just meant that maybe you could borrow like my scarf or something you know? An object that's important to me. It would be nice for you to wear it, like Igneel was there with us. Plus, it's even the right colour!' He gave me his signature toothy grin, and I gave in.
It would resolve the fighting, and it would mean a lot to Natsu. 'Alright then, I guess you have a point.' I gave him a smile in return, and he pressed his lips to mine.
'Awesome.'
---------------------------------------------
'You what?! Lucy you can't do this to us! You can't borrow something from Natsu!' Levy wailed.
'She's right! This is a girl thing and you're completely shunning us!' Mira bawled, tears gathering in her eyes.
At that moment, Natsu walked in, and four angry pairs of eyes turned on him. In a split second Levy, Mira, Erza and Cana were over there, launching attacks on him from every angle.
There wasn't much I could do but watch as Natsu got beaten to a pulp by four very angry bridesmaids.
