beep. beep. beep.

eddie squeezed his eyes shut and winced at the sound, pulling his blanket over his head.

beep. beep. beep.

he sighed and for his phone to turn off the alarm. as much as he loves to wake up early, he hates it even more. eddie laid there for a few minutes longer before he finally raised up and got out of bed.

his mom, sonia, heard his footsteps and yelled from downstairs, "eddie, are you up? come take your medicine."

"yes mommy! i'll be down in a minute," eddie said.

he walked into his bathroom and brushed his teeth before he making his way downstairs. sonia had laid out his pills on a plate in the kitchen. eddie popped them in his mouth one by one and swallowed them with water.

"here, eddie- bear. i made you some breakfast," sonia said and handed eddie a plate of food. "don't forget to drink plenty of water with that so you don't choke."

eddie nodded and smiled, "thank you mommy."

he sat down at the dining table and began to eat his breakfast. no matter how hard he tried to change the thought, only one thing was on his mind.

what do i say to richie?

eddie takes a deep breathe before walking down the bank that leads underneath of the kissing bridge. he squeezes his inhaler in his hand, already having to use it once on his way over. richie was leaning against the bridge's foundations with a cigarette between his lips.

"i didn't know you smoked?" eddie said as he finally got enough courage to walk over to richie.

"yeah, so what?" richie muttered and exhaled a puff of smoke.

eddie furrowed his eyebrows, confused at richie's rare cold attitude. he walked over to the curly headed boy and sat down.

"so um," eddie started but trailed off, not knowing what to say. richie wasn't being his usual outgoing, carefree self, which only made eddie feel more awkward. did he do something wrong?

"you actually came," richie chuckled and looked down at eddie before blowing out more smoke.

"uh yeah," eddie said shyly. "you told me to, so i did."

richie laughed again before sitting down beside him.
eddie closed his eyes and took a deep breath. he was just going to do it.

"hey richie?"

richie looked over at eddie. "yeah, eds?"

"do you, uh, maybe, no," eddie stuttered. "you know i-" he stopped as he got a good look at richie's face.

"eds?" richie asked. eddie reached over and gently brushed his fingers against richie's lips, causing him to wince. "hey, ouch."

eddie leaned closer to look at his bruised lips, "what happened to your face?"

"oh, i fell. you know how clumsy i am," richie laughed and grabbed eddie's hand, pulling it away from his face.

"take off your glasses." eddie yanked his hand out of richie's.

"eds i-"

"now," eddie said sternly to which richie sighed and pulled his glasses off of his face. the shorter boy gasped when he could get a better look at the black eye he had. "richie, tell me what happened."

"i already told you, i f-"

"no you didn't! you don't just bust up your face by falling, i don't care how clumsy you are!" eddie yelled, getting even more worried at how richie felt the need to lie about it. he stood up and grabbed richie's hand, pulling him back up the riverbank.

"where are we going?"

"i'm taking you to my house," eddie said as he continued to pull him down the road.

"oh, that eager are we?" richie joked, trying to make eddie forget about the situation.

eddie rolled his eyes and said, "i'm going to clean up your face. i forgot my fanny pack at my house."

"dork," richie chuckled.
