Hello again! Here's chapter 1!

I threw the picture in my school bag, not really knowing why. Leaving the picture inside, I carefully took out most of my school stuff, placing it on the counter in front of me. Probably somewhere deep in the backpack were pencils and random stuff. After zipping up my bag, and throwing it on my shoulders, I grabbed a flashlight and headed over to the back door. I sighed, turning back to face my home. Little did I know it was the last time for almost two years I would be there. I went out onto the deck, stepping onto the rotting wood. I looked around, seeing the streets more crowded than before, and the sun had set. I looked over the fence, seeing Nathan's house. To get there, I needed to climb over my fence and go through my neighbors back yard. Hopefully Nathan was there to let me inside.

Stepping down the stairs, I turned on the flashlight and started towards the lawn chair. I heard some sort of growl, as I turned to the fence between my house and the one beside it. I expected it to be the dog from next door, but it wasn't. It was my neighbor, who was neighbor staring at me, with a lifeless look in her eyes. Blood dripped down her chin, making me in my tracks, to shine my light at her. She started banging and clawing against the fence, sending shivers down my spine. I quickly grabbed the lawn chair, dragging it to the fence between my house and the one behind me. I looked over, seeing my neighbor gone. I gulped, looking around and shining the light. She was gone. Maybe she was back in her house.

I took a second, then jumped over the fence. With a loud thump, I was on the ground on the other side. Brushing myself off as I stood, I kept walking. I heard that growl again and stopped. My neighbor who was at the fence wasn't around anymore, but there was another woman standing a few feet away from me. I didn't know her very well. She was from the house in between my street and Nathan's. I was in her yard, trespassing. This is going to be fun to explain to my parents.

"Sorry..." I cleared my throat, "I'm just passing through." She didn't seem to care, she growled again and came towards me. Someone else was behind me, it was my neighbor from before. Her name was Brooklyn. None of them spoke, as they came towards me. Another came out from the house, the daughter of this woman. Her blonde hair was dirty, blood gushing from some sort of wound on her neck. My jaw dropped, seeing her with that lifeless look that the others had. I stopped in my tracks, as all three of them came towards me. I didn't know what to do, but I heard someone yell my name. The thought of what the hell is wrong with these people crossed my mind as the back light turned on at Nathan's house.

"Abbie!"

I turned my head, looking to the source. Nathan was on his deck, running down the stairs. He looked over to me, "come on!"

I looked back to the little girl, her mother, and Brooklyn. Then, I ran full speed to Nathan. He grabbed my arm and dragged me up to his deck, as those three neighbors and more of those lifeless looking people walked towards us. Nathan pushed me inside, locking the door behind him.

I didn't know what to say.

"Oh my god..."

He quickly closed the blinds and taped what looked to be a sheet over the slider. He sighed, looking back to me,

"First time seeing someone who's sick?" he asked. I looked at him, wide eyed and confused.

"What?" I muttered, "those are the freaking sick people?"

He nodded, "I saw it on the news, just before the power went out."

I gulped, brushing my hair out of my face, realizing I had been pretty close to three of them,

"How does it spread?"

"Bites and scratches." He told me, placing his hand on my shoulder. I nodded,
