Ahsoka stood at the gravesite that her and Rex had made for the clones. She couldn't believe that it was all over..And not in a good way.
The Republic has fallen. Most of her family was no more..She only had Rex left. And herself, of course.
Her gaze drifted down to her lightsaber. It rested on the dusty surface of the moon that the Venator had crashed upon. It reminded her of the sight of the large ship plummeting through the clouds. In a way, it represented the fall of the Republic.
But she couldn't believe that they were so fooled..So blinded to the fact that they had a Sith as their leader. One who orchestrated the war. It was all for nothing.
The clones died for nothing.
They fought for a war that didn't even matter.
But she knew that once she turned away, she would leave behind everything she's ever known. And she was leaving her old life behind. Because it no longer existed. It was extinguished. Along with any drop of hope that things would return to normal.
So with a single tear, she said goodbye to her fallen brothers. Who died without having any control.
Ahsoka turned and walked back toward Rex and the ship. Once she reached him, he placed his hand on her shoulder. His expression was full of sadness and pain.
They both climbed in. Ahsoka watched as the crash site became smaller and smaller, until finally it disappeared.
Ahsoka choked back a sob and lowered her head.
Rex turned and gave her a solemn look as they entered hyperspace. "It'll be okay.."
They both knew that was a lie. But there was nothing else they could do for comfort.
..........
They finally reached a suitable planet. The ship gently landed and both of them hopped out.
It looked quite similar to Naboo, but they had traveled far from Republic space. It was dangerous to be anywhere near there now.
"This planet's beautiful.." Ahsoka spoke in awe. There were a variety of flowers and plants spread across the open field. They were on higher ground, so below them, a large forest stretched out for miles.
"I agree," Rex replied with a smile.
They stayed there for hours, and even another day. But by the time Ahsoka woke the next morning, she knew what they had to do. Both of them were likely in grave danger from the Empire.
It broke her to pieces to do this. But she knew that they'd have to split up. And she figured Rex knew it, too. She's be staying here, while Rex took the ship and searched for anyone else:
She made her way over to Rex, who was staring at her with a solemn look. He knew what was happening.
"You know, I really wish we didn't have to do this.." He muttered.
"I know.." Ahsoka replied, frowning.
Rex gave a sad smile. "I'll miss you, kid.."
Ahsoka wrapped her arms around him suddenly. She let herself sob, clutching onto Rex like her life depended on it. "I'll miss you too, Rexter.." Her voice shook with tears.
Rex hugged her back, tears starting to drip down his own face as well. "We'll see each other again...I promise.."
Ahsoka nodded but didn't release her grip. "Please keep in touch..It'll get lonely after a while.."
Rex smiled. "Don't worry. I will."
Ahsoka tightened her grip, burying her face into his neck. She took a shaky breath.
"Be careful..and stay safe," Rex said, pinching his eyes shut.
"I will, and same to you.." Ahsoka replied, tears flowing down her face. "I really don't want to separate.."
"I know," Rex rubbed her back. Despite his attempts at comforting her, he was slowly breaking, too. Going off on his own was something he never thought he'd do. He was a soldier. But not anymore..
Nothing was the same. And it actually terrified him. It definitely terrified Ahsoka, too. No one knew what their futures would be.
They finally pulled apart, but Rex kept his hands on Ahsoka's shoulders.
"Everything will be okay..I wish we didn't have to separate either, but it's for the best," He assured, gently pressing his forehead to hers. No matter what, she'd always be his little sister. She was practically the only family he had left.
A tear dripped from Ahsoka's face as Rex lifted his head and looked her in the eyes.
"It'll be okay.." He said softly, again, before he turned and walked back toward the ship. Ahsoka watched him, tears still staining her face.
"Bye, Rex.."
He climbed into the ship and waved to her. Then, he was gone.
Ahsoka sat there, eyes wide and tears filling them. She knew that this was for the best. And for their safety. But it didn't change the fact that she was so sad.
"Bye.."
