Matthias and Lukas's bond only strengthened towards the Holidays. But as soon as Thanksgiving rolled around, Lukas became isolated. Francis, Lizzy, not even Matthias could get him out.

Lukas woke up, then rolled back over, shaking. He was scared. Every Christmas, something bad happened.

Something bad was bound to happen this year. Things were going to well for Lukas, something had to trip him up. He didn't want to face that unseen enemy.

And of course, it was only one hour until Christmas.

Lukas stood up. Matthias was gone. He had left to go do some last minute Christmas shopping, but promised to be home by midnight.

Lukas stood up, his legs wobbly, still half blind from sleep. He turned on the lights and went to the little kitchenette. He grabbed a knife. Walking back out, he got a paper and pen and the phone. He dialed up Matthias.

"Hej, Matthias here!" He answered.

"It's Lukas. I want you to know that you did nothing wrong. I just can't bear to see you hurt. Bye."

He hung up, and set to writing a goodbye letter.

Matthias was on his way home. He stared at his phone. "Lukas... No." He realized, and stepped on it, passing the few cars in front of him and zipping towards the boarding school.

A short letter would do. Lukas finished and signed it with a flourish.

Walking to the window, he taped the note there.

Matthias pulled in and jumped out of his car, not bothering to turn it off. Tears streamed freely down his face, freezing on his cheeks.

Lukas picked up the knife and held it to his throat, pressing in slowly.

Matthias yanked at the doors. They were locked. Running back and kicking the door in, he dashed up the stairs to the room.

Lukas dug the knife in deeper, blood trickling down his chest.

Matthias burst in. "LUKAS!" He shrieked, clearing the room in two strides. He grabbed Lukas's wrist, yanked it away and above their heads, and hugged Lukas tightly.

Lukas's eyes widened. "M-Matt..." He said, coughing, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

Matthias laughed, scared. "Heh, heh, don't worry, you're fine..." He took off his scarf and wrapped up Lukas's throat to stop the bleeding.

"Lukas, I love you. Francis loves you. Liz loves you. Everyone loves you. Emil loves you." He let out a sob, and smiled sadly. "Your mother loves you. Lukas, you are so lucky to be loved."

Matthias tilted Lukas's head up. Their lips crashed together with a sort of ferocity and gentleness combined.

The clock struck twelve. It was Christmas.

It was at that point Lukas realized something.

It was then, that Lukas realized he was loved.

And would be loved, for countless Christmases to come.

~Alternative ending~

Lukas hung up. Taking the knife, he decided that hey, he didn't need a letter.

Matthias rushed home, hoping he was wrong.

Lukas stood my the window and held the knife over his chest. "Goodbye, Matthias." He then stabbed the knife into his chest.

Lukas saw a fuzzy shape run towards him. "Bye, love..." His eyes glazed over, and the life drained slowly out of him.

Matthias screamed. "LUKAS, NO!!!" He broke down, sobbing, burying his face in Lukas's chest, his spiky hair getting soaked in blood.

Footsteps came up the stairs. Francis rushed in, Liz right behind him, followed shortly by Wang Yao. Francis stopped dead in his tracks, and Liz screamed, falling to her knees. Wang Yao rushed over. "Nonononono this is not happening nonono...."

Francis stumbled, falling over, tears streaming from his eyes. Lizzy screamed again, and Gilbert rushed in, followed by the rest of the gang.

Ivan walked in, and stopped, much like Francis had. He then broke down, sobbing. "No... Please... Don't leave..."

Lukas didn't know the widespread effect of his actions. When suicide is committed, it not only affects deeply, but widely.
